Job Description\n\nCoordinates and delivers patient care using the health care team philosophy practice model. Coordinates and does patient teaching and discharge planning. Coordinates activities with ancillary departments. Maintains standards of department and the hospital. Reports to Nurse Manager or designee.\n\nResponsibilities\n

• Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit.\n
• Initiates and implements patient care plan.\n
• Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees.\n
• Maintains acceptable standards of patient care.\n
• Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution.\n
• Creates a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel.\n
• Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.\n
• Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly.\n
• Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.\n
• Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand.\n
• Participates in planning changes and improvements.\n
• Participates in hospital safety programs.\n
• Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.\n
• Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.\n
• Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.\n
• Participates in unit and department performance improvement plans.\n
• Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.\n
• Maintains and respects patients' privacy by maintaining confidentiality of all information regarding patients, families, physicians and hospital personnel.\n

• Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences.\n
• Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors.\n
• Functional Demands : \n
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty.\n
• Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.\n
• Transferring, repositioning patients.\n
• Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions.\n
• Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required.\n
• Optimal auditory acuity required.\n
• Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties.\n
• Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.\n
• Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests.\n
• Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances.\n
• Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.\n\nQualifications\n\nGraduate of an accredited program in nursing.\n\nPrevious experience in general duty nursing preferred, but not required.\n\nCurrent Registered Nurse license to practice in the state; Current BLS.
