What You’ll Do

  • Build an engaged network of Jewish faculty and administrators who understand Hillel offers them support and community in navigating issues related to antisemitism, anti-Zionism, political intimidation, and overall campus climate.
  • Manage and convene faculty, staff, and students around fighting antisemitism who can work collaboratively to make positive change on campus.
  • Work as a resource for Jewish students and faculty in response to campus culture issues- both managing incident reporting / tracking / outcomes, and developing longer-term strategies.

This may include taking a role in leading advocacy work or helping facilitate legal and / or PR resources.

Work with Jewish and non-Jewish student leaders on campus to address the campus culture and ensure inclusion of all students.

This also entails training civically minded students on getting engaged in student government and club leadership.

  • Support appropriate community involvement on campus that is relevant and beneficial to the lived experience of Jewish students and faculty through building meaningful relationships with other community groups and individuals with shared values.
  • Speak with community groups, individuals, and policymakers about strategies for preventing antisemitism on campus.
  • Support graduate students and their advocacy around Jewish inclusion.

On a day-to-day basis you will

  • Build meaningful relationships with key university staff and faculty that yield productive partnerships.
  • Facilitate a course on student government and ways to engage with civic matters of impact.
  • Recruit student leaders to participate in Hillel’s Fact Finder Mission trips to Israel in partnership with the Israel Fellows on campus.
  • Be a thought partner with the Executive Director, Associate Executive Director, and other campus directors.
  • Connect with students who are interested in advocacy to empower them as leaders.
  • Regularly monitor, track, and report on antisemitism both on social media and in-person.
  • Write op-eds, letters, newsletters, action alerts, press releases, social media, and statements related to campus culture initiatives on behalf of Hillel of San Diego.
  • Plan advocacy events that support Jewish students on campus.
  • Participate in ongoing Jewish learning and professional development.

Who You Are

  • You have 8+ years in college campus work, Jewish community, or community relations.
  • You know your Jewish history and culture, the characteristics of antisemitism, and Zionism and anti-Zionism.
  • Passionate about fighting antisemitism and anti-Zionism.
  • You care about American values of democracy.
  • You have some legal knowledge, particularly related to Title 6 is recommended.
  • You know all about associated student government and love getting into the weeds with policy.
  • You prioritize diplomacy and working in collaboration toward solutions.
  • You’re a social media maven.
  • You’re not afraid of the pressure cooker. You’re an expert at handling deadlines and competing priorities.
  • You’re proactive and seek out opportunities.
  • You’re a critical thinker who embraces data and knowledge to develop solutions to problems.
  • You’re so organized, your sock drawer is color-coded.
  • You have a four-year degree.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $75,000-85,000.
