Research, Applied Analytics and Statistics
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level of GS-13 :
- Plans and carries out major projects for collecting detailed economic data from tax and information returns and other primary sources.
- Takes a leading role in managing all project areas which includes determining user requirements, program content, sample design, information systems design, training field personnel, and data collection and correction procedures.
- Ensures file delivery and data publication.
This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses.
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level of GS-14 :
- Performs a wide variety of economic studies to evaluate policies affecting tax administration and taxpayer compliance and to define feasible alternatives.
- This involves analyzing long-range effectiveness associated with the issues and resulting recommendations and their relationship to the mission and strategic goals of the IRS.
- Provides senior management with analyses of problems and authoritative economic advice on important decisions, which must be made under condition of uncertainty.
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level of GS-15 :
- Performs a wide variety of economic studies to evaluate policies affecting tax administration and taxpayer compliance and to define feasible alternatives.
- This involves analyzing long-range effectiveness associated with the issues and resulting recommendations.
- Provides senior management with analyses of problems and authoritative economic advice on important decisions, which must be made under condition of uncertainty.
RequirementsConditions of Employment

- Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement OR time of referral :
BASIC REQUIREMENTS - ALL GRADES :
You must have a bachelor's or higher degree in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
A combination of education and experience. Examples of qualifying experience include :
- Individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation.
- Supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists.
- Teaching assignments in a college or university that included class instruction in economics subjects.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11 :
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-12 :
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-13 :
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal Service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-14 :
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal Service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-15 :
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal Service.
Education
