Floating Requirement : - May float to ED or MS if experiencedRequired certifications : - ACLS, BLS, NRP, Intermediate or advanced Fetal Monitoring Required# of beds 7 L&D beds- 2 Triage beds- 10 Postpartum beds- 1-3 births per day- 830 births per yearRatios typically 1 : 2Exp or Must have skills - 2 years of experience required- Respiratory Therapist in unit 24 / 7- Support staff on unit : Patient Care Technician, Health Unit Secretary- Nurse manager occasionally see patients (when needed)- Need experience with : - 3+ years of experience required- C-section experience required- Support staff on unit : OB scrub tech, HUC- Call : one shift per 4 week schedule- OB / Neonatologist not in house- 24 / 7 pharmacy in house- Must be proficient in fetal monitoring and the actions taken for fetal distress.
- Must be able to care for patients with pre-eclampsia- Clinical background in high risk patients. Since there is NOT an in-house OB, so the nurses need to be very proficient with their assessment skills and be able to handle OB emergencies until the provider arrives.
- May float to other units of hospital (usually MedSurg) if needed- Must be able to function in L&D and couplet care (they don't always utilize their LDRPs as couplet care beds, but can do so if census is low).
