Paraprofessionals must be 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. In addition, a paraprofessional working in a Title I-A program must meet one or more of the following requirements2
Key Qualifications :
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education;
- An Associates (or higher) degree;
- Meeting a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through a formal state, or local academic assessment or para-educator certificate program, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing : Reading, writing, and mathematics;
OR Reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
Core Responsibilities :
- Assist teachers in classroom management and instruction.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, including those with special needs.
- Help implement lesson plans and educational activities.
- Support students in developing social, academic, and life skills.
- Maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.
