Principal Product Manager, Assortment Strategy - Accelerated Pickup & Delivery (APD)

Walmart's Accelerated Pickup & Delivery (APD) Product Team is at the forefront of retail innovation, delivering the software and solutions needed to implement and leverage automated systems within our stores. This team works with a high degree of cross-functional partnership across Global Tech, Operations, Merchandising, and more to seamlessly integrate automated and manual processes, improving both the customer and associate experience.

As the Principal Product Manager for Assortment Strategy, you will be a key individual contributor reporting to the Director, Product Management. You will own the strategic vision and execution of the APD assortment, defining how we select the right products to maximize business value. You will leverage advanced analytics, AI solutions, and a deep understanding of end-to-end inventory flow to develop and drive the product roadmap. This role requires a leader who can influence without direct authority, mentor other product managers, and act as the subject matter expert for APD assortment.

This role will report to the Director, Product Management and is based in Bentonville, Arkansas.

What You'll Do

  • Define and own the product roadmap and strategy for APD assortment, ensuring it aligns with the broader program goals and delivers on key business objectives.
  • Act as the subject matter expert and strategic lead for APD assortment, advising on product selection, new item introduction, and inventory optimization.
  • Utilize advanced analytics, AI / ML models, and data-driven insights to identify opportunities and build innovative solutions for assortment selection and optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Merchandising, Product, Operations, and Engineering to gain alignment, prioritize initiatives, and ensure successful execution of the product roadmap.
  • Mentor and guide other product managers on the team, providing coaching on product strategy, data analysis, and stakeholder management.
  • Drive continuous improvement by defining and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing product performance, and iterating on solutions to maximize value.
  • Represent the team in stakeholder discussions, communicating the product vision, strategy, and results to both technical and executive audiences.

What You'll Bring

  • 7+ years of experience in product management, with a track record of successfully leading complex, data-driven products from concept to launch.
  • Deep expertise in advanced analytics , including proficiency with SQL and a strong understanding of how to leverage AI / ML solutions to solve complex business problems.
  • A strong understanding of supply chain flows and in-store fulfillment processes , with the ability to connect merchandising, software, and operational knowledge to achieve business goals.
  • Exceptional ability to influence and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from engineers and data scientists to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience defining product strategy and managing a product roadmap in a dynamic environment with multiple dependencies.
  • Proven ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems through data analysis and strategic thinking.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching junior or mid-level product managers.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Option 1 : Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related area and 9 years' experience in product management. Option 2 : 11 years' experience in product management or related area.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related area and 8 years' experience as a product manager, ideally working on consumer-facing, large-scale, highly complex B2B / C products, Supervisory experience, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
