- Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Community OutreachSpecialist.
- The position is a hybrid primarilyremote and travels throughout Central Indiana.
- Candidate must be onsite in the Indianapolis office fororientation / training / meetings as requested. Travel to theIndianapolis DOH office is not reimbursed.
- The position requires approximately 50% field travelthroughout Central Indiana. Field travel is reimbursed.
- The position is expected to last through the fiscal yearwith a high likelihood of renewal.
- Theposition does require some heavy lifting when setting up andbreaking down exhibitions / events.
- The positiondoes require a flexible schedule to include evening and weekendhours for community events.
Background :
The Maternal and Child Health Divisions (MCH) CommunityEngagement and Systems Building team serves to connect familiesorganizations and providers locally and statewide.
This mission isaccomplished by building and strengthening systems that serveHoosiers throughout their lifespan.
Current initiatives include :
- My Healthy Baby is a system that identifieswomen early in their pregnancies and connects them with an OBnavigator a home visitor who provides personalized guidance andsupport to women during pregnancy and at least the first 6 to 12months after the babys birth.
- The MOMSHelpline is a program that helps reduce Indianas infant mortalityrate with dedicated communication specialists that provide valuablepregnancy information referrals and accessible resources topregnant women and families with babies.
- HelpMe Grow is a system model that works to promote crosssectorcollaboration in order to build efficient and effective earlychildhood systems that mitigate the impact of adversity and supportprotective factors among families so that all children can growdevelop and thrive to their full potential.
- MCH seeks to grow its reach of these initiatives acrossthe state and be more fully connected to families providers andsocial service organizations.
Purpose of Position / Summary :
The purpose of this position is to representthe Maternal and Child Health Divisions (MCH) Systems Building andCommunity Engagement Team (SBCE) in the community to buildrelationships with a wide variety of local and statewide partnersand to promote MCH projects and programs.
Specifically thisposition will focus on serving as the liaison between the communityfamilies and the MCH system.
The Outreach andEducation Specialist will support the awareness and visibility ofMy Healthy Baby (MHB) MOMS Helpline (MHL) and Help Me Grow (HMG) tothe state.
This position will fulfil this purpose by (1)representing MCH at numerous community events and meetings (2)engaging providers and families in the MCH system and (3) providinginformation support and connections to training opportunities toprofessionals statewide.
EssentialDuties / Responsibilities :
- Be knowledgeable ofcommunity service programs and resources behavioral health carespecialized children services and education / trainingopportunities.
- Promote and support the MOMSHelpline Help Me Grow and My Healthy Baby by attending conferencesexpos community events and other networking opportunities thatbring awareness to the program initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with families in the communityand agency partners to ensure all needs are met linking them to theMHB Help Me Grow and MOMs Helpline systems.
- Network with organizations and exhibitors at allconferences expos and health fair events.
- Participate in community committees within your assignedcounty block (as well as assist colleagues as needed).
- Participate in the development of Help Me Grow and otherstate activities.
- Work across the MCH Divisionwith outreach efforts.
- Establish partnershipswith social service agencies including but not limited to WIChospitals Healthy Families Child Care Resource and Referral HeadStart Early Head Start NICUs childcare providers and otherproviders within the Maternal and Child Healthpopulation.
- Identify Point of Contact tocommunity resources and maintain updated contact information in anExcel spreadsheet
- Prepare and distribute MCHinformational and promotional materials to providers that serve theMCH population throughout the state upon receiving requests fromproviders.
- Assist in preparing and updatingpresentations to deliver to community organizations.
- Assist or act as a substitute for the Community Outreachand Education Supervisor in work group meetings and / or monthlymeetings that increase awareness of MHL HMG and MHB.
- Contribute to maintaining the Liv Pregnancy App byresearching and assisting with publishing content that promotes andenhances maternal and child health.
Required skills :
- Bachelors degree in humanservices social services or early childhood education.
- Valid Indiana Drivers License and ability to travelthroughout the State of Indiana.
- Priorexperience working with children and families.
- Prior experience in a program coordinator role(preferably in a healthcare setting).
- Priorexperience working with community programs.
- Computer proficiency with software applications includingMS Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Prior experiencepresenting to audiences for a variety of stakeholders.
- Prior experience with Indiana Medicaid healthinsurance.
- Prior marketingexperience.
