Job Description :

Serving as a member of the Athletics Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Sports Medicine / Athletics Health Care Administrator is responsible for the administration of the sports medicine program, including managing athletic training staff, coordinating with team physicians, and the administration of insurance.

Oversee complete medical care regarding all varsity student-athletes participating in 17 varsity sports. Evaluate and treat athletic injuries, rehabilitate athletes, and recommend injury prevention strategies.

Major Responsibilities :

  • Develop overall sports medicine program for the University, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and educational programs for student-athletes.
  • Evaluate athletic injuries; administer proper first aid and emergency care.
  • Provide athletic training services for the University's athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
  • Supervise the University's athletic training staff and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
  • Serve as an active member on the Athletic Department Senior Leadership Team.
  • Communicate with coaches, administrators, physicians, and parents regarding the injury status of athletes.
  • Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
  • Manage the Athletic Training Facility including the scheduling of routine maintenance and purchasing of new equipment. Maintain the facilities physical appearance and overall order.
  • Maintain treatment documentation and records using Athletic Trainer System (ATS) and other subscribed EMR
  • Ensure that all athletes have completed departmental medical requirements prior to practice or competition and the information is on file in the Athletic Training Facility.
  • Oversee annual budget for the Athletic Training Facility and direct the ordering of adequate medical supplies and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans for each varsity athletic venue, including lightning and catastrophic guidelines.
  • Coordinate insurance claims with insurance carriers, medical providers and athletes.
  • Adhere to all NCAA regulations and BOC Standards
  • Assist in annual review of departmental policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree, required; master's degree preferred
  • Previous athletic training experience at the college level
  • Engaging in effective written and oral communication with members of the coaching staff, athletic administration, and sports medicine staff
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong communication skills both oral and written
  • BOC certified
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts Athletic Trainer's license (or eligible and obtained prior to employment)
  • CPR / First Aid / AED certifications, required
  • Experience in therapeutic exercise and manual therapy skills
  • Experience managing multiple tasks while working proficiently under pressure
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects effectively
  • Knowledge of effective use of ATS
  • Experience with Google Calendar, Outlook, Microsoft office suite
  • Working knowledge and application of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Working evenings, weekends, and holidays are required
  • Overnight travel may be required
  • Some moderate lifting required
  • Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus
