Position Summary
The primary location of this position is the Cullowhee, NC campus.
Western Carolina University seeks a collaborative, innovative, enthusiastic, and community and faculty focused advocate to serve as the Associate Director of Community Partnerships.
The Associate Director will work in tandem with the Center leadership to manage community partnerships, faculty development initiatives, student and staff outreach, assessment, and other center operations associated with the community-engaged mission of WCU.
The Associate Director develops, oversees, and manages community engagement and development functions including :
- community / regional partnership cultivation, communication, and management,
- some administrative duties,
- select student worker supervision and development,
- articulating the community engaged mission of WCU.
The Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning is housed within Undergraduate Studies, an integral component of the university’s focus on the holistic student experience.
Undergraduate Studies seeks to improve individual lives and enhance economic and community development in the region, state, and nation through engaged learning opportunities.
The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning. Minimum Qualifications Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without the need for employment sponsorship.
Master’s degree required. Degree(s) from many academic disciplines will be considered. Degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution.
A minimum of three years of administrative work experience in community development, faculty development, community engagement / service, and or non-profit / community organization management is required.
Preferred Qualifications A demonstrated and comprehensive awareness of community engagement trends in higher education is preferred.
Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
This position requires excellent interpersonal skills given the broad, diverse base of constituents and clientele served.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential assets to this position. Proven leadership and supervisory skills focused on a culture of empowerment and inclusion is preferred.
A demonstrated capacity for using various technological tools for community engagement and a familiarity with the Community Engagement Professionals Competency Model and application of best practices in the field of community engagement is valued.
A clear understanding of how to establish multiple partnerships and work within a regulated system is significant. Position Type Permanent Full-Time Number of Hours Per Week 40 Number of Months Per Year 12
