Assistant Resident Engineer–Construction Management [28244]

The company is hiring an Assistant Resident Engineer to support the Resident Engineer or Senior Structure Representative, provide complex inspection services, while utilizing and demonstrating a strong knowledge of Civil Engineering and Construction Management quality assurance practices per client / project specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Monitors and reviews contractors’ construction schedules
Assists with engineering calculations, submittal review, falsework review, shoring review, working drawing review, lines and grades, quantity calculations, and similar engineering tasks in support of Structure Representative or Resident Engineer as appropriate
Assists with interpretation of contract plans and specifications to contractors and other project participants
Inspects and approves contractors’ work and assures adherence to contract documents
Inspects earthwork grading, proportions, and control of mixes
Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel
Assists Resident Engineer with review of contract change orders
Assures project's quality control and quality assurance standards
Prepares and files daily construction reports, diaries, and other project documents
Prepares and updates project logs for submittals, RFIs, and change orders
Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project and maintains material and inspection records
Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
Performs and analyzes testing of construction materials
Assists Resident Engineer with change order preparation and ratification
Participates in contract claims and general claim avoidance
Coordinates with contractors and agencies about different tasks and projects
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements :
MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE, OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
BS degree in engineering, Associate’s degree in construction management, project management or a closely related field. An additional 3 years of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.
Possess an understanding of engineering and construction practices on water / wastewater projects including pipelines and water bearing structures
Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required.
EIT and / or PE is preferred, but not required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
5 + years of professional work experience in construction management, including contract administration, construction inspection and cost estimating
OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS
Knowledgeable with construction methods and procedures
Possesses good oral and written communication skills
Interacts well with other staff, public, government agencies
Proficient with computer and basic computer programs such as Word & Excel
Proficient with engineering calculations and concepts

$58.00 to $78.00 per Hour
