OVERVIEW : The Development Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting gifts from a managed portfolio of donors and prospects.

This position plays a pivotal role in the success of YF both now and in the future. We invest heavily in relationships to ensure that : our current donors feel appreciated and motivated to maintain or increase their support;

and new connections to our mission feel inspired to give.

POSITION CLASSIFICATION :

FLSA Exemption Status : Exempt

Work Schedule : 12 month, Full-Time (40 hrs / wk)

Location : In-Office (Edina)

Basis of Pay : Salary

Pay Range : $65,000 - $80,000, plus incentives

Department : Donor Relations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES :

Relationship Management

  • Build and manage a portfolio of 125-150+ donors with capacity for $1000+ gifts. Participate in all phases of the solicitation process and escalate at-risk relationships appropriately.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with board members, staff, Youth Frontiers leadership, and external partners to enlist active support for YF's fundraising efforts.
  • Develop highly personalized donor communications including proposals, stewardship reports, and general program updates.
  • Serve as a visible spokesperson and advocate for Youth Frontiers’ mission and programs in the community and a conduit to build new relationships.
  • Travel as needed to meet with existing and prospective donors in support of program objectives.

Development Strategy & Operations

  • Participate in the development of YF’s next long-term fundraising campaign, including research, planning, prospect and pipeline development, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Utilize wealth screening information, other research, and networks of existing donors to identify prospective major donors.
  • Actively participate in strategy sessions and help inform leadership of key donor strategies.

Donor Database Population & Reporting

  • Support ongoing improvements to the systems and processes that operationalize and organize our development efforts.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly revenue projections and forecasting for the portfolio.
  • Record all interactions with donors and prospects within the donor database.
  • Track personal progress towards weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals including outreach and donor meetings.
  • All positions at Youth Frontiers may perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 2+ years experience in individual fundraising or equivalent relationship management experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Demonstrated skills in building strong relationships, with the ability to engage and inspire external stakeholders.
  • Comfort with reaching out to prospects via email and phone, able to secure face-to-face meetings with donor prospects, and excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Accountable, with an attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Demonstrated proficiency in guiding donors through all phases of the gift cycle : (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors;
  • 2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure;

4) to make direct solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.

  • Experience with CRM database, preferable Salesforce.
  • Mac Experience with basic software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Goal and results-driven with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles, working independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and anticipate the needs of donors, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence.
