Job Description and Responsibilities

To ensure that Visas payment technology is truly available to everyone, everywhere requires the success of our key bank or merchant partners and internal business units.

The Global Data Science group supports these partners by using our extraordinarily rich data set that spans more than 3 billion cards globally and captures more than 100 billion transactions in a single year.

Our focus lies on delivering data-driven analytic insights and data science solutions that is impactful and helps meet the business goals of our clients.

We work in complementary teams comprising members from Data Science and various groups at Visa across regions.

You will lead data science support for our product partners in the Global Buyer and Seller Solutions team, and will be based at Visa's offices in Foster City, CA.

Essential Functions

• Drive value from Visas unique global data assets to answer critical questions for the buyer and seller solution product teams delivering product solutions to both issuers and merchants
• Lead a data science team responsible for blueprinting and delivering analytic projects that address business objectives
• Interface and influence various stakeholders across product teams and functions to identify, design and deliver insightful product analytics
• Develop metrics and analytic dashboards to monitor performance and to identify opportunities, while also helping the product managers to self-serve on their basic data needs
• Develop consumer segmentation, targeting and forecasting models to enable both opportunity sizing and optimal program execution
• Quantify incremental impact of various product and service take-up and usage using a variety of causal statistical and machine learning based techniques
• Draw data-driven insights and make actionable recommendations to the product executives that reflect the specific business context and objective
• Guide team to utilize Hadoop infrastructure to perform advanced data mining and develop statistical and ML models, as needed
• Define detailed analytic scope and methodology and create analytic plans for execution by the team
• Present analytics, insights, and recommendations to a non-technical audience
• Lead and mentor a team of technically proficient data scientists to deliver quality results and by committed timelines

Represent data science at the product leadership team meetings to both influence and provide key updates

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

12 years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree; 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters / MBA / JD / MD);

or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications

• 15+ years of relevant analytical experience in applying solutions to business problems
• Masters or a Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Business Analytics, or a related technical field
• Technical experience with the following :
• Extracting and aggregating data from large data sets using SQL / Hive or Spark
• Analyzing large data sets using programming languages such as Python, R, SQL and / or Spark
• Advanced skills in statistical methods (e.g. regression modeling, clustering techniques, decision trees, etc.) and machine learning techniques (gradient boosted trees, random forests etc.)
• Building predictive and descriptive statistical models using machine learning tool kit, Jupyter notebooks, Python etc.
• Generating and visualizing data-based insights in software such as Tableau
• Communicating data-driven insights and conveying actionable recommendations
• Managing and organizing work in Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and / or Teams
• Fluent storyteller with superior interpersonal skills
• Orientation to detail, as expected to ensure highest level of quality / rigor in reports & analyses
• Strong project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-moving work environment
• Ability to coach, lead and provide direction to a diverse team of technical personnel
• Possess a collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible style, with the ability to tailor data driven results to various audience levels
• Results oriented with strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
• Previous exposure to financial services, payments or merchant analytics is a plus
• Exhibit intellectual curiosity and strive to continually learn

Additional Information

Work Hours I

Incumbent must make themselves available during core business hours.

Travel

This position requires the incumbent to travel for work up to 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, and reach with hands and arms.
