Description
POSITION SUMMARY : Is trainedto perform processing blood and other body fluids, sendouts, andother tests as required. Obtains blood samples from the correctpatient, ensuring that the blood is properly drawn and labeledfollowing established procedures to assure the proper specimen forthe requested testing.
Is trained to become competent atvenipunctures and skin punctures. May register and interviewpatients, obtaining accurate demographic and financialinformation.
May be required to verify medical necessity forall Medicare patients.
Requirements
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION : High schooldiploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSES :
SKILLS : Ability to register patients, obtain specimensand dispense critical information in accordance with section,laboratory, and hospital policies and procedures.
Mustbe able to read and write English and be able to communicateeffectively. Must be able to operate laboratory equipment,computer systems.
EXPERIENCE : Relevantexperience preferred.

Bloodbornepathogen : -C (RoutineExposure Risk. Routine exposure in daily duties. Exposed topotentially infectious material on a regular basis and is part ofthe expected job risk)
Generally works in a welllighted, ventilated area. Exposure to disagreeable odors, toxicfumes, and high noise levels and fluctuations in temperatures.
Exposed to carcinogenic, hazardous and radioactive materials; sharpneedles and blades; infectious diseases; toxic fumes. Mental stressfrom working with infectious materials and reporting results thatdirectly affect patient care.
Activities of the job are carried outindoors, at blood drawing stations, or at a desk, bench or bedside.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : May be required to work more than a standard shiftas dictated by workload, staffing, and equipment failure.
Requiresstanding, sitting, stooping throughout the entire shift. Workoccasionally requires safe waist-high lifting and transferring ofpediatric and adult patients, usually with assistance.
Pushing andpulling up to adult weights may be required. Higher than shoulderreaching may also be required. Work requires finger dexterity, goodcolor vision, close work, good hearing, and good vision.
Job oftenrequires working rapidly and under time pressure for long periodsof time.
