Director of Dining Services, Judson Manor
General Purpose :
The Director of Dining Services provides leadership and strategic direction to the entire Dining Service Department at Judson Manor while upholding Judson’s mission and values.
The position ensures that the department operates professionally while adhering to all sanitary, safety, and regulatory standards, is adequately staffed, and fulfills the expectations of providing high-quality dining experiences for residents, guests, and associates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Plan, organize, develop, direct, and supervise daily operations of the Dining Services Department in Independent Living and Assisted Living
- Assist Human Resources in recruiting and hiring new associates. Develops and ensures successful completion of orientation for all new department associates.
- Provides supervision to all department associates including evaluations and disciplinary actions. In addition, ensure associates receive appropriate training and in-servicing.
- Oversee payroll and adequate staffing. Ensure supervisory coverage for all Independent Living and Assisted Living dining locations.
- Create and maintain a high level of associate morale and foster associate development.
- Create the departmental budget and oversee expenditures to control department financials.
- Collect, report, and utilize appropriate quantitative information, including but not limited to the number of meals served, cost per meal, pricing, revenue, and inventory.
- Oversight of inventory to ensure necessary supplies, both food and non-food, are properly maintained and available.
- Develop business solutions to grow revenue and the department.
- Plan, organize, and execute catered events and special functions.
- Possess the knowledge and ability to perform responsibilities of all positions in the department.
- Work with a Registered Dietician to ensure the nutritional needs of residents are met, including those with special diets.
Oversee planning, implementation, and amendments of menus.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and all Judson policies and procedures. Develops and maintains department policies.
- Maintains kitchens, all dining rooms, and storage areas to exceed sanitary expectations.
- Collaborate with the Resident Council’s Dining Committee. Attend and participate in all committee meetings.
- Work collaboratively with all departments, residents, guests, and vendors to provide excellent service and maintain open and strong communication.
- Accountable for the execution of product and service quality by maintaining the highest standard of service delivery.
- Participate in continuing education and / or seminars to keep current with industry standards.
- Maintain a record of acceptable attendance and punctuality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Certifications :
- 5+ years of experience in food service management and operation, preferably in long-term care or a healthcare environment.
- Certified Dietary Manager preferred.
- Possession of valid Serve Safe certification.
- Possess knowledge of basic nutrition and menu planning.
- Possess knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines regarding food service in healthcare.
- Strong interpersonal skills including employee motivation, directing, leadership, and communication with employees and other departments.
- Experience developing and managing a budget.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule and possess the ability to multitask.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Computer skills using Excel, Word, Publisher, Microsoft Office, and financial software.
