In collaboration with the Senior Director of CUTP, provide essential leadership support in the operation and management of one Center, three academic programs, one academic minor, and eight affiliated subject matter programs across other LMU Schools / Colleges : Education and Learning Sciences (Liberal Studies) major, Traditional Teacher Education Preparation (Elementary and Secondary) Preliminary Credential, Education Minor, Educational Studies Integrated 4+1 Program, and LMU subject matter programs (Art, Biology, Dance, English, History, Math, Spanish, Theater).

Position Specific Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the CUTP Senior Director, manage the regular operations of the one Center, three academic programs, one academic minor, and eight affiliated subject matter programs across other LMU Schools / Colleges including, but not limited to : outreach and recruitment, admissions, curriculum review and development, writing and implementing program modifications, creating and managing course schedule, monitoring and responding to enrollment management, produce annual updates and revision to University Bulletin for Center, departmental and program sections, as well as writing accreditation program documents.
  • Communicate, collaborate and work directly with the Senior Director, program directors, academic advisors, and undergraduate programs and / or offices to track candidate retention, completion of program benchmarks, and progress toward degree and credential completion.

Respond to concerns and problem-solve issues as they arise. In consultation with directors, design and implement intervention processes for candidates not making appropriate progress.

  • Manage the creation of class schedules, ensuring timely offerings of required coursework across all programs. Consult and collaborate with the Office of the Registrar on all teacher preparation program and course related information in Undergraduate Bulletins, providing review, oversight, evaluation of accuracy, continuity, and readability.
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and review of part-time faculty across all programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of student recruitment and retention activities, collaborating regularly with admissions, transfer student services, and appropriate Schools / Colleges to establish and meet enrollment goals and ensure program sustainability.
  • Collaborate with SOE Clinical Support Services to ensure ongoing and timely communication and collaboration regarding candidate fieldwork mentoring, including but not limited to engagement with fieldwork supervisors and mentor teachers with a focus on candidate success.
  • Work closely with undergraduate and SOE academic and student services to ensure efficient processes for concurrent / cohesive advisement, financial aid, course / credit transfer approvals, Controller's Office / Student Accounts, clinical fieldwork placement, and credentialing completion.
  • Respond to candidate, staff, full- and part-time faculty concerns. In collaboration with the Senior Director, support candidates on non-routine issues.

Serve as a resource to program candidates, working closely with academic program directors and academic advisors in providing referrals and follow-up to available services on campus including, but not limited to : Disability Student Services, Student Psychological Services, the Academic Resource Center, and SOE Student Success Team.

  • Promote innovative technology practices in business processes to streamline and strengthen student support.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Service and Action, Student Affairs, Student Leadership Development, and other campus offices to manage the development, implementation and promotion of service and engaged learning opportunities for teacher preparation candidates ( Alternative Breaks, a teacher club, alumni community, etc.).
  • Stay current on California Commission for Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) policies, legislation, and ever-changing credential regulations, particularly those related to undergraduate subject matter teacher preparation programs.
  • Assist / collaborate in the development of program assessment plans. Assist with writing / editing assessment reports, analyzing assessment data, and co-leading assessment meetings.

Provide recommendations, as appropriate, for program, process, or policy improvement.

  • Assist in the identification, research and writing of grant / external funding opportunities.
  • Oversee planning and facilitation of activities for CUTP and academic programs to meet specific program goals / objectives / targets including, but not limited to : advisory board meetings, retreats, conferences, alumni collaboration, and other program events.
  • In consultation with SOE and CUTP leadership, engage Advisory / Alumni Council / Boards to meet evolving needs in undergraduate educator preparation and teacher professional development.

Provide direction to Alumni Council / Boards as they develop and organize alumni events and alumni sponsored projects to support incoming and current candidates.

  • Advise on long- and short-range goals and contribute to the development of a strategic plan. Use statistical methods or formulas to identify, track, and analyze meaningful data to help in identifying trends and adjusting program operations.
  • Actively participate / serve on University, School, district, PK-12 school site committees and organizations as appropriate.

Requisite Qualifications

Typically a Master's Degree in Education, Administration or Counseling and / or equivalent K-12 experience. California teaching or services credential highly desirable.

Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of accreditation, regulation, and policy changes at university, state, and national levels.

Minimum five years progressively responsible teaching and / or administrative experience in K-12 or higher education, recruitment, academic counseling, retention, curriculum review and planning.

Assessment and accreditation experience highly desirable. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the areas of teacher preparation training and candidate advising.

  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries.
  • Highly developed organizational, team building and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated computer competency with thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office and database systems. Experience with LiveText and Qualtrics systems highly desirable.
