The Surgical andNeuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SICU and Neuro ICU) has acombined total of 30 intensive care beds designed to providespecialized care to the critically ill adult (14 and older)patient.
The unit has a usual 50 / 50 split of patient populationbetween the neuro and surgical patient population.
The focus of care includes patients withlife-threatening conditions related to major elective and emergencysurgical procedures, multi-trauma, traumatic brain injury, spinalinjury, stroke, seizure, sepsis / multi-organ system failure,hemodynamic instability and failure to wean.
The SICU and Neuro ICUpatient needs encompass but are not limited to comprehensivephysical assessments, intensive monitoring, treatment of laboratoryvalues, ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring.
SICU-Neuro ICU nurses require the followingskill set - ICP monitoring via EVD or bolt, spinaldrains / catheters, brain oxygen monitoring, Artic Sun therapy,continuous EEG, intra-arterial catheter, non-invasive cardiacoutput, mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacementtherapy, reconstructive flap monitoring, and massive bloodtransfusion among others.
Nursing will support the followingon-unit procedures including placement of arterial lines, centrallines, external ventricular drains and ICP monitors, SEPS drains,bedside bronchoscopy, abdominal washouts, tracheostomy,percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement, lumbarpunctures, chest tubes, pigtail drains andothers.
HourlyRange : $33.00 - $33.99
Thenurse is responsible for :
- Implementation ofphysician orders, administers medications, starts IVs, performstreatments, procedures and special tests, and document treatment asrequired by company policy and local / state / federal rules andregulations.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostictests to identify and assess patients' conditions.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs for, and responses to, carerendered.
- Apply sound nursing judgment in patient caremanagement decisions.
- Provide primary and emergencycare for occupational and non-occupational injuries andillnesses.
- Administer over-the-counter andprescription medications as ordered.
- Collaborate withthe nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
- Direct and guide ancillary personnel and maintain standardsof professional nursing.
- Graduate of aprofessional academic nursing program in which a Diploma, AssociateDegree or Baccalaureate Degree is conferred
- Must holdcurrent NYS Registered Nurse license
- Obtain andmaintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and AdvancedCardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Minimum of 1-3 years ofprevious clinical RN experience in Med-Surg or ProgressiveCare
- Excellent communication, prioritization,organizational and time-management skills
- Possessknowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solvingtools and techniques and demonstrates ability to apply in supportof departmental and patient care qualityimprovement.
