Job Description :
- Patient Care :
- Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards.
- Coordinate and deliver patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
- Education and Learning :
- Identify and meet learning needs.
- Use patient education materials relevant to patient population.
- Assess readiness to learn of the patient, family, or caregivers.
- Attend education programs and participate in self-improvement activities.
- Implementation and Evaluation :
- Identify expected patient outcomes and revise the plan of care as needed with guidance.
- Participate in discussions with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
- Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Leadership :
- Develop goals for professional growth or minimizing limitations.
- Provide feedback to co-workers and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Promote cost-effective care and ensure a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
- Patient Assessment and Planning :
- Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
- Assess discharge needs and develop relationships with families for advocacy.
- Collaborate with patient / family to prepare or update the plan of care.
- Technical Skills :
- Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
- Manage multiple tube / drain care, including chest tubes, Foley catheters, NG tubes, G-tubes, J-tubes, J / P drains, and rectal tubes.
- Deliver IV, central line / PICC line care, TPN administration, anticoagulation, oxygen therapy, pain management, blood product administration, and ostomy care.
- Research and Knowledge Development :
- Read and assess studies or articles applicable to practice.
- Engage with colleagues for assessment of new ideas and practices.
- Cultural Sensitivity :
- Address cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care and demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary team providing high-quality care primarily to adult post-surgical patients with gastrointestinal issues.
The unit requires close post-operative observation and a wide range of specialized care practices.
