Position Summary

UCLA's School of the Arts and Architecture (SoAA) provides innovative programs, is home to internationally acclaimed museums and believes in a holistic approach to arts education that motivates and empowers students to serve as cultural leaders of the 21st century.

As our Senior Director of Development, you will join us in our commitment to groundbreaking education, pioneering research, dynamic public service, and community engagement fueled by an unwavering belief in the fundamental value of creativity and the artist's unique ability to change the world and shape the future.

You will play a vital role in the cultural and artistic life of the campus and the broader community by bringing support to programs that encourage interdisciplinary inquiry and creative production while upholding the highest standards of excellence and imagination.

Working closely with the Executive Director of Development, you will be a key member of SoAA's team as you develop and execute long- and short-term strategies to secure gifts and build out a robust major gifts program.

Salary & Compensation

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience and progressive responsibility as a professional development officer and / or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience in soliciting major gifts and / or prior experience with solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. (Required)
  • Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising at a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity. (Required)
  • Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill and / or ability to work with a dean and / or senior faculty of a professional school or equivalent leadership of a similar level and type at a comparable organization. (Required)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with team members, colleagues and other internal / external constituents toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals;

resourceful with ability to recognize opportunities. (Required)

Appropriate management and administrative skills needed to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals and volunteers;

supervisory skills to oversee and evaluate the efforts of staff. (Required)

  • Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment without direct supervision. (Required)
  • Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA's fundraising goals and the specific priorities of the School of the Arts and Architecture;

equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness. (Required)

  • Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports. (Required)
  • Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues as well as confidential information. (Required)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of applications is required as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies. (Required)
