Job Description

Building Services Co-op

McKenney's Inc., voted one of Atlanta and Charlotte's BEST PLACES TO WORK, is seeking Engineering and Construction Management Majors who are interested in the construction industry.

As an industry leading mechanical contractor, McKenney’s has specialized in HVAC and Plumbing construction throughout the greater Atlanta area for over 70 years.

At McKenney’s our co-ops are an integral part of the success for our projects and the company, and we rely on and encourage their fresh ideas.

As a co-op, you will be part of the team from day one and given training and tasks that are important and impactful to our projects' success.

McKenney's has a long history of success in hiring Co-ops and supporting their growth into well rounded leaders. Much of our Executive Leadership team, Operations Managers, and senior leaders started in the Co-op program.

The Co-ops work in a collaborative team environment under the leadership of the Project Managers and perform duties like an Assistant Project Manager while transforming the skyline and existing spaces throughout the Southeast.

The responsibilities and job skills learned are primarily dependent upon the individual Co-op's drive, determination, and ability to learn and function on a multi-disciplinary project team.

A typical day can range from assisting with generating an estimate, coordinating scheduled activities at the project site, and / or helping to come up with engineering solutions.

A successful Co-op will learn how to estimate projects and scopes of work, work directly with vendors to purchase material and equipment, and support Field Foreman and customer needs through scheduling and site logistics management.

Experienced, successful Co-ops will have the opportunity to run jobs from inception, through construction and final job closeout, under the guidance of their Project Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-Ops will work hand in hand with various Account Managers to manage the mechanical, plumbing and / or building automation service and retrofit work.
  • Co-Ops will coordinate with vendors to schedule and procure major material and equipment purchases for the various jobs.
  • Co-Ops will regularly update scheduling for project work multiple times over the course of the week
  • Co-Ops will work with Account Managers in order to review project drawings and develop estimates and proposals.
  • Co-Ops will work with Account Managers in order to obtain, review, and if needed provide submittals for various projects.
  • Co-Ops will be responsible for regularly leading a meeting to schedule labor and overview the weekly labor calendar.
  • Co-Ops will regularly survey project sites for adherence to McKenney’s safety, quality, and productivity values.
  • Co-Ops will work with Account Managers daily to perform various tasks for multiple projects and service jobs, including generating POs, makings sketches, as-builts, and performing take-offs, and developing closeout documentation.

Candidates must be able to complete 3 full-time, alternating co-op rotations in Atlanta prior to their graduation. Students must be enrolled in a co-op program at an accredited engineering school majoring in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, MET, or Construction Management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Self-motivated and team-orientated
  • Ability to use time productively in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Maintain a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate across a diverse group of people (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.).

Moving Safety Forward, our initiative for continuous improvements in our safety culture, reminds us that we are on a journey toward a zero-incident culture.

In all we do, we must work to build a partnership with our employees, customers and business associates that empowers them all with the ability to do their jobs safely.

McKenney’s is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to workforce diversity. Qualified candidates will receive consideration without regard to age, color, religion, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, or gender identity.
