Dawson Technical Institute (DTI), a satellite center of Kennedy-King College (KKC), one of the seven City College of Chicago (CCC).

Dawson Technical Institute is dedicated to providing students with intensive and comprehensive industry validated training in the construction trade and utility industries.

DTI is committed to preparing students to compete in these industries by offering relevant competency to unionized apprenticeships and other relevant trade and utility worker opportunities.

Through the Center of Excellence in Construction Technology, Dawson Technical Institute faculty and staff partner with industry leaders to ensure the curriculum reflects employer demand, to provide internships and give students the opportunity to interview and secure jobs in the field.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE :

Reporting to the Dean of Dawson Technical Institute, the Assistant Dean - Center of Excellence in Construction Technology assists the Dean in overseeing academic and operational activities for Dawson Technical Institutes programs.

This role ensures program quality and compliance with industry standards as well as helping to manage faculty and staff, developing curricula, and fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders.

Additionally, the Assistant Dean is responsible for promoting student success through enhanced learning opportunities and resources.

ESSENTAL DUTIES :

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of Dawson Technical Institutes programs.
  • Supervises program staff and oversees all program aspects including developing and scheduling courses, budgeting, registration, selection and hiring of vocational lecturers, and assessment of courses and learning outcomes, and program marketing.
  • Maintains day-to-day relationships with industry and business partners, working collaboratively to assess Career / CTE programs, identify emerging skills and hiring trends, and to procure new internship opportunities.
  • Works collaboratively with the Dean to secure the participation of industry partners and business organizations in providing internships, work-based learning experiences, and employment opportunities for students enrolled in CTE and transfer programs.
  • Oversees the implementation of marketing and communications strategies for Careers and Continuing Education, working with key stakeholders to promote programs, maintain websites, and use social media to attract and engage students.
  • Leads the implementation of specialized accreditation for construction trade programs.
  • Develops and manages timelines, documentation, and resources required for accreditation applications and renewals.
  • Coordinates with relevant accrediting bodies to ensure compliance with their standards and requirements.
  • Supports Instructors in the organization, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment and facilities.
  • Ensures equipment is regularly serviced per vendor agreements and maintains inventory records of equipment and assets.
  • Works with Instructors and college administrators to plan and schedule the procurement of equipment and supplies for Construction Technology programs.
  • Assists in developing and implementing a comprehensive orientation program for part-time faculty, in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources at the College and the District Office.
  • Assists in implementing the prior learning assessment (PLA) policy.
  • Works with the Registrar Office to facilitate seamless registration processes for DTI and Continuing Education Program consistent with District policies and procedures.
  • Represents the college to community organizations and agencies and participates on district-wide committees.
  • Assists in writing proposals to seek external funding for specific projects and initiatives that require support beyond the Districts capabilities.
  • Uses computer software to prepare memoranda and spreadsheet reports detailing activities and statistics.
  • Maintains close attention to detail in all aspects of each assignment to ensure accuracy of information and reports.
  • Serves as weekend and / or evening administrator for the College.
  • Required to adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university required. Masters degree preferred.
  • Three years of work experience as a college administrator, program chair, faculty member, or related program management experience required.
  • Construction, building, utilities, or related experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of planning, program development, evaluation, and budgeting, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively represent the District at various meetings and outside gatherings.
  • Ability to conduct research, analyze data, and prepare clear and thorough reports.
  • Must be self-directed and innovative, able to assess current operations in an effort to improve the future goals of the College.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six (6) months of hire.
