Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who is motivated to design, develop and deliver extensible data solutions as part of an agile engineering team.

Ideal candidates possess experience with cloud-native data tooling, including programming languages such as SQL and Python, integration platforms such as Databricks, Snowpark and Azure Data Factory;

as well as data storage technology such as Snowflake, Microsoft SQL Server, and Azure Data Lake Storage. All candidates should have experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry and be familiar with data modeling, data warehousing, data lake, and data mesh concepts.

As a Senior Data Engineer at West Bend, you will handle the most complex issues across an evolving, cloud-native landscape.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

As part of an agile delivery team, the Senior Data Engineer works on solution design and development, data engineering, data modeling, code reviews, data storage, automation and integration to support business value delivery.

This role provides mentorship and coaching to junior employees and their peers.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • 6+ years of experience delivering data solutions in an Agile environment
  • Advanced proficiency with solution design concepts in cloud-native data architectures
  • Advanced proficiency with Python and SQL programming languages
  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, data lake, and data mesh concepts
  • Experience with Snowflake, Azure Data Lake Storage, and / or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory and / or Snowpark
  • Experience with DevOps or DataOps concepts; including building release pipelines using Powershell, Git, Azure CLI, and / or Snowflake CLI
  • Can effectively communicate, influence, and challenge IT peers and leadership
  • Sees a solution through to its full delivery - facilitates business value achievement, not just individual code
  • Shares knowledge, mentors and enables junior team members, advocates for best practices and optimization of the engineering experience
  • Experience with Property & Casualty Insurance data is a plus
  • Experience with Insurance Financial data is a plus
