The City University of New York (CUNY) is the nation's largest urban public CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY Med) is located at the City College of New York (CCNY) in the heart of Harlem.

It is the only medical school in the CUNY system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017.

The CUNY MED offers an accelerated BS / MD (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (28-month program).

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY Med) is seeking an Executive Director ofGovernment Relations and Community will serve as primary liaisons with government and elected officials at the city, state, and federal levels as well as leaders at community organizations and other external stakeholders to advance the mission of CUNY MED.

The director will work closely with CUNY leadership to support the school’s strategic initiatives by developing, maintaining, and deepening effective relationships with strategic partners of the school, with a primary focus on governmental, civic, community, and nonprofit taining direct contact with legislators during the budget process is crucial to this position.

The Executive Director of Government Relations and Community Affairs reports to the duties and responsibilities of the Government and Community Relations Director will include but are not limited to :

  • Develops and implements a policy for strategic government relations and community relations as well as community outreach programs.
  • Manages community-related issues involving the medical school and the local political, governmental, and business arenas as well as the day-to-day external affairs activities.
  • Works in collaboration with appropriate individuals in the CUNY's central administration, such as the CUNY Legislative Action Committee to advance CUNY's legislative, civic engagement, and charitable giving agendas.
  • Develop an advocacy and leadership program for medically underserved health professional students;
  • Develops grant proposals to foundations and corportions; writes and edits proposals, including budgets and related materials
  • Researches and identifies grant opportunities that support College programs and initiatives; matches goals and priorities with grant
  • Monitors and coordinates legislative initiatives with potential impact on the school and academic medicine
  • Serves as spokesperson for school legislative affairs and is the primary contact for legislative issues
  • Identifies and cultivates relationships with appropriate governmental entities, seeking collaborations to meet common objectives
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Dean

This position may include evening and weekend hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

PREFERRED :

  • Master's degree and / or terminal degree
  • Bilingual and multilingual skills are highly preferred
  • Demonstrate a history of a successful track record in grant cultivation and in managing grant proposals through the grant application and submittal process.
  • Excellent judgment and a record of effectiveness in conflict resolution and negotiations
  • The ability to work effectively a s a member oof the senior stadd, independently, and proactively.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
