Associate Director, Large Animal Patient Care and Patient Facilities

Description

This position falls under the management of the Director of Imaging and Clinical Services and includes managing a team of 7 Clinical Care Technicians and a team of 10 Patient Care Attendants.

The job requires oversight of 6 barns, which involves maintaining 100 stalls. To excel in this job, you must possess a solid understanding of horse handling and animal husbandry, as well as the ability to guide staff through difficult and sometimes dangerous situations while maintaining patient facilities and equipment.

Job responsibilities include :

  • Manage the Clinical Care Technicians and Patient Care Attendants.
  • Maintain all patient housing with the help of the Director of Facilities, including disinfecting between patients, and stall and barn maintenance.
  • Maintain and repair all equipment used by staff.
  • Keep a record of all patient care supplies, feed, and bedding material.
  • Provide necessary training to staff on biosecurity standards, radioactive materials, and biohazard waste.
  • Ensure coverage 7 days a week by creating a monthly schedule.
  • Responsible for employee recruitment, performance management (including improvement plans), and scheduled PTO using Workday software.
  • Provide onboarding and training for employees as needed.
  • Provide teaching to Veterinary students and Harcum students.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing staff, with 10 years preferred.
  • Experience working in a Large Animal Hospital is preferred.
  • Ability to work with the HR department in staff management, including hiring, termination, and disciplinary actions.
  • Exceptional leadership skills are required.
  • Great communication skills are necessary.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills are a must.
