Facilities and Property Management ( FPM ) comprises approximately 80 full time and 60 student employees who work together to maintain over 5 million square feet in downtown Portland, and this team is a key element in the department.

Position Summary

The Electrician position provides journey-level electrical services and assists with planning, installation, and maintenance activities for electrical and low voltage systems at Portland State University.
Primary responsibilities include :
- working on lighting and power systems, plus a variety of special purpose equipment such as switchgear, motors, switches, generators and electrical heating apparatus;
- installing new wiring, conduit, fixtures, and other associated electrical apparatus; and
- coordinating with external contractors / vendors on electrical maintenance and repairs.
Successful candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
They will demonstrate their knowledge of industry best practices in commercial electrical systems, using manual and power tools, to work safely in the presence of the public while maintaining a professional demeanor as well as a safe, orderly and clean worksite.

This is a permanent full-time position within an innovative team-oriented environment located in downtown Portland, and includes a comprehensive benefits package with at least 38 days of paid time off each year, 95% employer-funded premium healthcare, 100% employer-funded retirement plans , and 70% off of tuition for the employee, dependent children, and your spouse or domestic partner.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification
Possession of one of the following Oregon Electricians Licenses appropriate to the work to be performed :
- General Supervising Electrician License
- General Journeyman Electrician License
- Limited Journey Manufacturing Plant License
- Limited Supervising Manufacturing Plant License
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
- Valid Oregon General Journeyman Electrician License
- Proven ability to perform work in a professional customer service manner and with consideration for the needs of the campus faculty, staff and students
- Valid driver's license
- Successful completion of a background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a service electrician
- Experience troubleshooting electrical systems and motor controls
- Experience with MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms)

The starting salary rate for this position is between $29.08 and $33.44 per hour, plus a recruitment and retention bonus equal to 10% of the base salary which equates to $31.
99 to $36.78 per hour. The SEIU rates increase by 2% on 11 / 1 / 24.
