Under the direction and supervision of a Therapeutic Apheresis RN performs therapeutic apheresis procedures and HPC collections.

Performs procedures in a safe and professional manner to minimize discomfort to the donor / patient and to minimize the number of incomplete procedures.

Adheres to all FDA, NJDOH, AABB, FACT and Blood Services guidelines to insure patient / donor safety and product acceptability.

Correctly assigns each donation a unique number and collects requested laboratory specimens for testing. Projects professional and pleasant manner to make the patient / donor relaxed and at ease.

Provides observation and post-procedural care to recognize any unstable situations and intervene appropriately. Releases donors and patients only when they appear in satisfactory condition.

Accurately and completely documents all procedures and data in the BCIS, on run sheets and apheresis forms in a timely manner.

Communicates effectively and accurately the need for blood products to potential designated and volunteer donors over the telephone.
