The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo invites applications for a full-time temporary lecturer position in Transportation Engineering for the 2024-25 academic year.
The position starts in Fall 2024 with the possibility of extension to the 2025-26 academic year, contingent on departmental need and satisfactory evaluations.
Expertise in one or more of the areas of traffic simulation, data science applications, travel behavior and forecasting, and / or active transportation is preferred.
Depending on interest and department needs, opportunities to participate in faculty research may be a possibility.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS A minimum of an M.S. in civil or transportation engineering or a closely related field is required.
Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. Willingness and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in traffic and transportation engineering is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - P.E. licensure is preferred. A Ph.D. in civil or transportation engineering or a closely related field is preferred.
Previous teaching experience is desirable and preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities. Candidates with related industry or consulting experience will be given preference to reinforce Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing core philosophy.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT - The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department has two separate B.S. degree programs with approximately 650 undergraduate students in the Civil Engineering Program and 250 in the Environmental Engineering Program.
Both programs are ABET accredited. The Department also offers an M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with approximately 50 active graduate students.
