University Health Services (UHS) is an accredited on-campus medical facility dedicated to addressing the varied healthcare needs of UT Austin students.

UHS provides comprehensive services, including general medical care, public health education and specialty clinics.

This position is non-benefits eligible. It will be filled by a Medical Technologist I or Medical Laboratory Technician.

Purpose

To obtain clinical specimens and perform technical analyses to aid health care providers in patient diagnosis and treatment.

Perform procedures in all technical areas of the clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analyses and reports on patient specimens.
  • Obtains patient specimens and processes them for testing.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as scheduled.
  • Accepts and satisfactorily completes other duties as assigned by the Associate Director and Chief Medical Technologist.
  • Performs and documents laboratory quality control.
  • Participates in proficiency testing and quality improvement evaluations.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Medical Technologist :

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or Chemical, Biological, or Physical Science with one additional year of Medical Technology training.
  • Certified as Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the area of Clinical Laboratory by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.

Medical Laboratory Technician :

  • Graduate from an approved school with two-year Medical Laboratory Technician program with successful completion of 15-week training as part of degree program
  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent

For MT and MLT :

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of experience in a laboratory performing moderate complexity testing.

Salary Range

  • Medical Technologist I : $33.77 per hour
  • Medical Laboratory Technician : $24.51 per hour

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
