Basic Function :

The Senior Manager of Data Science plays a critical role in driving innovation, data-based scientific decision-making culture, and enhancing operational efficiency through data science and advanced analytical tools.

This position requires a combination of strong leadership, technical expertise, business acumen, and communication skills.

As a key member of a diverse and dynamic business analytics department, you will have the rare, challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with unique data sources and datasets and to lead cross functional teams to design and build predictive and innovative analytical products, and to create solutions to support decision-making for the Houston Texans and Lone Star Sports & Entertainment.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Oversee the end-to-end execution of data science projects, from inception to delivery, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, scope, and success criteria. Monitor project progress, identifying risks, and implementing mitigation strategies as needed.

Communicate project updates and insights to key stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.

Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytical models and algorithms to extract actionable insights from complex datasets.

Leverage statistical techniques, machine learning, and other quantitative methods to solve business problems and drive decision-making.

Conduct in-depth analysis of trends, patterns, and anomalies to uncover opportunities and mitigate risks. Continuously evaluate and refine analytical approaches to improve model accuracy and relevance.

Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Provide strategic guidance to the business analytics teams and ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the team.

And recruit, train, and develop top talent in the field of data science. Effectively manage team resources, workload distribution, and performance evaluations.

Collaborate closely with business leaders, managers, and other stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities. Translate business requirements into analytics products and data-driven solutions.

Present findings, recommendations, and strategic insights to executive leadership. Build strong relationships with internal and external partners to drive collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Ensure that data science initiatives comply with relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical standards, including data privacy and security requirements.

Uphold the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism in handling sensitive and proprietary information.

Proactively identify and address ethical considerations and biases in data analysis and modeling.

  • Perform various other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the SVP, Business Analytics and Insights.
  • Subject to reasonable accommodations, this position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with other Club personnel;

therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in the Club offices and not in a telecommuting manner.

Skills Required :

  • Mastery and tested capabilities in scalable schema designs, relational database and big data technologies, ETL, code management, and query performance optimization.
  • Mastery in SQL-based languages and ability to comprehend and debug complex codes with excellent attention to detail, and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within designated deadlines.
  • Strong hands-on experience with machine learning models and sophisticated and automated analytic solutions using Python.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and storytelling skills using data and data visualization, and excellent ability to collaborate effectively between business and analytic teams at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong project management and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a high-energy environment.
  • Ability and internal drive to demonstrate a winning attitude and a strong work ethic in the performance of all job responsibilities.

Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, MBA, MIS, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field required.
  • 4+ years of experience in data science with proven skills in developing meaningful and concise analytic objectives from business goals required.
