Civil Engineer
Our company is seeking a seasoned Project Manager specializing in heavy civil construction to lead and oversee large-scale projects such as paving, grading, highways, roads, and Caltrans projects.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing complex civil engineering projects, with a strong emphasis on delivering high-quality results within budget and on schedule.
This role demands a proactive leader with excellent technical knowledge, project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities :
Project Planning and Management :
- Project Leadership :
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of heavy civil construction projects, including paving, grading, highways, roads, and Caltrans-related projects.
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with project goals and client requirements.
- Stakeholder Coordination :
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining effective communication and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Resource Management :
- Allocate resources effectively, including labor, materials, and equipment, to optimize project performance and meet project milestones.
- Manage project teams, providing direction, support, and leadership to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Technical Oversight and Quality Control :
- Technical Expertise :
- Utilize extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles and construction practices to oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and standards.
- Review and approve engineering designs, plans, and specifications, ensuring compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
- Quality Assurance :
- Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure that all work meets or exceeds industry standards and project specifications.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor construction quality, identifying and addressing any issues or deficiencies.
Budget and Cost Management :
- Financial Oversight :
- Develop and manage project budgets, tracking costs and expenditures to ensure projects are completed within budget constraints.
- Analyze project costs and forecasts, identifying potential cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies.
- Contract Management :
- Negotiate and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and project requirements.
- Handle change orders, claims, and disputes, resolving any issues that may arise during the project lifecycle.
Schedule and Risk Management :
- Project Scheduling :
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, ensuring all project activities are coordinated and aligned with project timelines.
- Monitor project progress, identifying potential delays and implementing corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Risk Mitigation :
- Identify and assess project risks, developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies to minimize potential impacts on project outcomes.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, updating risk management plans as necessary.
Safety and Compliance :
- Safety Standards :
- Ensure all construction activities adhere to safety regulations and standards, promoting a culture of safety among project teams.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections, addressing any safety concerns or violations promptly.
- Regulatory Compliance :
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including Caltrans standards and guidelines.
- Maintain necessary documentation and records for compliance with regulatory requirements.
Communication and Reporting :
- Reporting and Documentation :
- Prepare and present regular project reports, including status updates, budget reports, and risk assessments, to clients and stakeholders.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, contracts, and progress reports.
- Team Collaboration :
- Foster a collaborative team environment, encouraging open communication and cooperation among project team members.
- Lead project meetings, providing clear direction and guidance to ensure project objectives are met.
Qualifications :
- Experience :
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project management within the heavy civil construction industry, focusing on paving, grading, highways, roads, and Caltrans projects.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale civil construction projects from inception to completion.
- Education :
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PE) are preferred.
- Skills :
- Extensive knowledge of heavy civil construction practices, methods, and materials, with a focus on paving, grading, highways, and roads.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget management and cost control.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, team members, and other stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Certifications :
- Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or PE (Professional Engineer) are highly desirable.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification is a plus.
