Senior Payroll Systems Analyst

Under minimal direction, this position is responsible for executing and overseeing the payroll function, ensuring payroll processes are well-designed and executed in order to complete all tasks timely, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations and best practices.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads payroll operations and Workday payroll systems administration.
- Provides payroll subject matter expertise, as well as Workday payroll systems expertise. Troubleshoots and resolves complex issues.
Provides proper case management.
- Leads, develops, monitors, and executes day-to-day operations of on-cycle and on-demand payroll, including but not limited to executing payroll checklist(s), garnishment processing, data entry, data loading (EIBs and integrations), NOC / ACH rejects, tax validations, terminations (meeting compliance requirements), retro processing, standard review and corrections, and settlements.
- Develops, monitors, and executes analytical activities to include payroll audits, data quality checks, integration balancing, W-4 Audits, tax oversight, monthly / quarterly reconciliations, benefits processing, monitoring payroll sync, information and reporting requests, suspense account management, year-end support, etc.
- Trains other members of the payroll and finance teams on payroll administration, processes, systems, and policies.
- Leads and oversees payroll and employment tax management. This includes state and local tax monitoring, corrections, follow up and resolution for outstanding items.
- Leads year-end planning activities for all payroll functions. Develops processes and standards, ensures timely and accurate completion of tasks, and provides status reports.
Creates and reconciles year-end tax forms. Partners with the wider finance team for year-end processing and reconciliation.
- Provides Workday payroll systems oversight. Oversees Workday release implementations, including change testing and requirements review, change management, assessments and recommendations to management, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) updates for impacted processes.
- Manages earnings and deductions changes. Creates and tests new codes. Collaborates with other teams on relevant testing activities.
- Develops and maintains SOPs for all payroll processes and procedures.
- Provides direct and quality support to employees, leaders, and other stakeholders. Provides enterprise communications about wider payroll related activities, as needed.
- Identifies areas for automation / process improvements to reduce manual work and reduce risk.
- Engages with external contacts / vendors for support, where needed, and ensures service levels are necessary and achieved.
- Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.
- Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Experience : A minimum of 7 years of experience with payroll processing required, to include : experience with multi-state payrolls and payroll for organizations with 500 or more employees.
- Functional payroll expertise including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and processing of payroll taxes required.
- Experience and demonstrated expertise with payroll systems and, at minimum, intermediate proficiency and solid experience with Microsoft Excel required.
- Prior experience with Workday required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Payroll process setup and testing experience.
- Experience in working autonomously, showing time management proficiency to meet necessary timelines.
- Experience working with an outsourced payroll provider.
- Experience and familiarity with time-keeping systems.
- Workday payroll module certification.

- Proficiency with MS Office applications, specifically Excel.
PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Hybrid remote / office work environment
- Travel :
- 5+ hours per shift : Sitting, finger dexterity, reaching waist to shoulder.
- Up to 3 hours per shift : Standing, walking, bend, squat, kneel, handling, driving, reaching above shoulders, reaching knee to waist, reaching floor to knee, grasping items, push / pull items up to 10 pounds.
Additional Job Details :
Full-time, OT as needed.
