Position Overview : The Assistant Director of Community Standards supports the efforts of the Division of Student Affairs to ensure the safety, security, and community standards of our students by overseeing the proper case management of both student conduct and behavior intervention cases.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students & Deputy Title IX Coordinator, the Assistant Director assists with the adjudication of administrative and board hearings, as well as training of hearing officers and board members.

The Assistant Director works closely with other campus resource providers to coordinate a response that balances the needs of individual students with the safety and welfare of the Responsibilities :

Provide case management of student conduct proceedings for thirteen hearing officers and the student conduct board.

Serve as an administrative hearing officer and conduct board chair.

Provide case management of specific students referred to the Merrimack College CARE team as assigned.

Serve as a member of the Title IX team in conjunction with the Office of General Counseling, Associate Dean of Students, Merrimack College Police Department and Residence Life.

Provides initial contact and resource meetings to individuals, help to facilitate the hearing process as necessary and coordinate with investigators as necessary.

Ensure all policies and procedures are consistent with Title IX and guidance from OCR.

Supervise a graduate fellow for Community Standards and student interns as

applicable.

Participate in training for campus community members about proper use and referral to the student conduct system.

Develop and facilitate training for and provide assessments to hearing officers, hearing board members, and Residence Life staff members that file incident reports.

Ensure student conduct sanction compliance and notification of parents / coaches of students found responsible for violations.

Creation of additional sanction options that would be effective at addressing students' recidivism rate.

Use empirical data regarding activity on campus and within residence halls to establish evidence-based approaches to student behavioral concerns.

Serve as a developer and facilitator for various workshops including Bystander Intervention, BASICS, CHOICES and student affairs collaborative workshops.

Enhance the web and social media presence of the Office of Community Standards.

Participate as a member of the Student Affairs division in campus wide events such as commencement, orientation, move-in, and other campus-wide events throughout the year.

Assist with divisional initiatives over the summer with various departments such as Orientation, Residence Life, Summer Conferences, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications :

Completion of relevant post-graduate degree (e.g. Master’s Degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or other relevant field)

Knowledge of best practices in student conduct and behavior intervention teams.

Excellent oral and written communication skills for a variety of audiences.

Knowledge or experience in data management and reporting.

Comfort with wide range of behavior / health topics including student discipline, suicidality, substance use, sexual assault, and mental health.

Excellent student development skills

Understanding of the application of state and federal laws and policies (FERPA, Title IX, Clery, etc.)

Minimum 1-2 years prior professional experience within higher education, preferably within student conduct and / or behavioral intervention.

Prior experience managing a large student caseload.
