Manager of Compliance and Privacy :
Pay Range : $57.20 - $91.51 / hour (Actual offer rates are based upon the applicant’s relevant job experience and the requirements of the position)
Under the direction of the Director of Compliance, the Manager of Compliance and Privacy is responsible for and will assist in the continued development and growth of the Howard University Hospital Compliance Program.
The position ensures compliance with all governmental and institutional policies related to the healthcare operations of Howard University Hospital and supervises Compliance Department staff.
The Manager of Compliance and Privacy provides essential governmental reporting, compliance training, and support across the enterprise.
The incumbent serves as the Howard University Hospital Privacy Officer, applying effective practices to prevent, detect, and respond appropriately to privacy risks and assist the institution in protecting confidential information.
- Supervises the compliance readiness assessment of various Hospital areas at the division, department, or unit level and works collaboratively with operational leaders to ensure compliance matters are promptly handled or forwarded for follow-up or response.
- Performs or supervises audits, investigative fieldwork, and other duties such as determining the presence of internal controls and reliance on organizational structure.
Establishes effective working relationships and builds credibility with physicians and staff to promote a culture of ethics and compliance.
- Prepares written reports, resources, and education and training materials on timely compliance topics; designs, develops and conducts compliance-related education and training.
- Supervises the collection and analysis of data and develops metrics to measure the effectiveness of the compliance and ethics program and initiatives undertaken on behalf of the institution.
Serves as Howard University Hospital’s designated HIPAA Privacy Officer.
- Ensures that periodic risk assessments and ongoing monitoring of critical elements of the privacy program are monitored, including privacy notice, consent, authorization, business partner agreements, practices, minimum necessary information, and disclosure.
- Provides oversight and direction to the department's professional staff in accordance with established policies and procedures;
monitors, evaluates, counsels, and advises on individual and departmental performance.
Monitors department day-to-day budgetary and financial activities.
Qualified candidates will possess :
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to health care reimbursement, information security, and privacy, including HIPAA, Stark Law, and Anti-Kickback statute.
- Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
Knowledge of operational compliance with statutes and regulations related to health care.
- Ability to plan, manage, and conduct fact-finding investigations and to develop related recommendations
- Experience managing professional staff.
- Strong written, verbal, and computer skills. Ability to lead by example, adhering to high standards of integrity and ethics in all aspects of the work performed on behalf of the institution.
- Ability to write clear, persuasive, adequately substantiated analysis and investigation documents and to strengthen such skills in others.
- Ability to observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources.
- Ability to interpret complex regulations, practices, and procedures of healthcare programs.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and SharePoint. Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Qualified candidates will require :
- Graduate degrees in a job-related discipline (JD, MHA, MBA, or MJ) are required.
- At least five years of compliance, legal, and audit experience in a healthcare setting and demonstrated understanding of effective Corporate Compliance programs.
At least five years of management experience in a professional setting.
Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) is strongly preferred.
