Who You Are

Have you ever wanted to teach others about game art and animation? We are researching for an addition to our astounding team of faculty. You must be an expert in various gaming languages and development techniques associated with game applications. An exemplary UAT instructor who can relate their knowledge and experience in using Maya is critical.

Our Game Art and Animation Courses prepare students for jobs such as character artist modeler and texture artist, character artist animator and rigger, environment artist modeler and texture artist, environment artist animator, mechanical mesh modeler and texture artist, and mechanical mesh animator and rigger.

Essential Duties

  • Facilitate student-driven, innovative game projects with a focus on original IP and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Mentor technology-focused, creative students through all stages of the asset and animation pipeline
  • Teach traditional art principles alongside current and emerging game development practices
  • Deliver instruction in advanced character rigging, motion capture (mocap) clean-up, and integration
  • Guide students in concept development, visual storytelling, and pre-production asset creation
  • Support the creation of 2D and 3D art assets including characters, environments, props, UI, and VFX using industry-standard tools
  • Supervise student teams in agile production environments with an emphasis on iteration and critique
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and development of Game Art and Animation curriculum
  • Participate in portfolio reviews and help students prepare for industry opportunities
  • Engage in program-level discussions on emerging tools, pipelines, and trends (e.g., Unreal Engine 5, AI workflows, real-time rendering)

Skills and Education Required

  • Professional experience in game art, animation, or interactive media development
  • Proficiency with tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk Maya, and 3ds Max (or similar)
  • Experience with rigging, skinning, and animating characters for real-time engines
  • Ability to create high- and low-poly models, textures, and optimized game-ready assets
  • Familiarity with scripting, blueprints, or procedural workflows (e.g., in Unreal Engine or Unity)
  • Strong understanding of art fundamentals : anatomy, form, gesture, perspective, lighting, and color theory
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring or teaching emerging artists in academic or studio settings
  • Master’s degree in Game Art, Animation, or a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in game art or animation required
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience and academic credentials
  • Passion for art and animation created through technology, and commitment to student success

    Important Notes

    Location Requirements : This is not a remote position; candidates must be willing to work in-person on our campus in Tempe, AZ.

    Adjunct Pay : $3,000 for in-person courses; $2,400 for hybrid / online courses.

    Part-Time Pay : $30k-$45k dependent on Education and Experience.

    Full-Time Salary + Benefits : $60k-$90k dependent on Education and Experience.
