SUMMARY :
The Senior Systems Engineer designs, builds, implements, and supports elegant systems and systems infrastructure solutions to advance organizational goals and objectives.
The position provides advanced-level technical expertise, as well as escalation support, for all managed systems, infrastructure, and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Handle all aspects of systems deployment projects with a focus on systems infrastructure, including initiating purchase requests, developing implementation plans, defining methods of procedure (MOP), and executing work
- Participate in on-call rotation for escalation support of technical issues, supporting the 24x7x365 production environment
- Develop life-cycle plans for building and scaling services, updating the systems infrastructure, and retiring legacy solutions
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and procedures
- Establish and recommend systems infrastructure policies and standards for the team and organization
- Develop monitoring and trending systems to predict capacity issues within the systems infrastructure
- Mentor junior team members, providing technical & procedural guidance, and cultivating a culture of knowledge transfer within the team
- Track and work requests via ticketing system; perform triage and provide resolution for both internal and external customers
- Deploy and support hardware and software for workstations and servers, including troubleshooting, component replacement, auxiliary / peripheral installation, and software installation
- Audit and deploy OS, application security, and feature updates on equipment managed by Systems
- Monitor performance, security, and availability of the server environment. Recommend improvements in technologies and practices to increase these metrics
- Support the organization's hosted VoIP environment for local and remote users
- Assist leadership in defining and enforcing organizational policies related Systems and Tools
REQUIRMENTS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE (TECHNICAL) :
- BA / BS degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience and demonstrable success with designing, maintaining and implementing complex systems environments
- Experience administering DNS in a multi-domain environment
- Experience administering common infrastructure applications (i.e., DHCP servers, web servers, email servers, mailing list servers, etc.)
- Hands-on systems administration experience in a multi-vendor, multi-OS environment (i.e., Linux / RHEL, Windows, OS X, AWS.
Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, Elastic)
- Understanding of scalability, redundancy, and failover in architecture design and implementation
- Strong familiarity with TCP / IP networking - preferred
- In-depth experience on Linux systems, including CentOS and Red Hat Linux virtualization methods - preferred
- Experience administering and maintain containerization technologies such as Kubernetes or similar - preferred
- Experience with programming and / or building systems and network automation tools using Perl, Python, Ansible, and Shell scripting - preferred
- Experience with GitLab and DevOps methodologies - preferred
- Experience with ELK stack - preferred
- Experience implementing, managing, and maintaining Cloud technologies (i.e., AWS, Azure, Terraform, HashiCorp Vault, Google Workspace) - preferred
- Relative Industry Certifications (i.e., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate / Professional, Linux / RHEL Certifications, Kubernetes Certifications, ect.) - preferred
