Medical Assistant, Erie, PA

• Erie , PA
• Daylight Schedule
• $17.00 - $ 20 .00 per hour as new employee (performance pay raises available, after hire)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Current Medical Assistant Certification required
• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Degree Program required
• Experience with the following Medical Assistant functions :
• Injections
• Phlebotomy
• EKGs
• Vitals
• Rooming Patients
• Urinalysis
• Autoclaving / Sterilizing
• Medical Charting
• Assisting staff with medical procedures
• Willingness to work at multiple locations
• Minimum 6 months experience in a medical office setting
• Typing, general computer skills required
• Knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities

Responsibilities :

• Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Check schedules and organize patient flow.
• Accompany patients to exam / procedure room.
• Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
• Collect patient information / history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
• Relay instructions to patients / families.
• Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
• Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
• Comply with all policies and procedures.
• Obtain lab / x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
• Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
• Prepare and manage charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure and assist physicians with procedures.
• Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
• Clean exam / procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
• Manage inventory of supplies; restock exam / procedure rooms.
• Send / receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance, Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
