Job Summary :
The Radiologic Technologist Extern is a position for radiology students to practice delivering quality patient care in the radiology areas.
The Extern will work under the direction and supervision of the Radiology Clinical Coordinator, Radiology Team Lead and the Radiologist staff in performance of radiographic procedures in accordance with common radiology functions and daily radiology activities.
The Extern follows established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.
Job Specifications :
- Assists licensed practitioner in the performance of radiographic and / or medical imaging and related procedures Prepares, immobilizes and positions patients and equipment to demonstrate anatomical area of interest Determines and evaluates radiographic technique exposure factors to minimize exposure to patient, self and others Assist licensed practitioner with imaging procedures Prepares and administers contrast media within accepted scope of practice and applicable state regulations
- Provides patient care and communicates needs to the healthcare team and evaluates outcomes Obtains and records medical history relevant to the condition being viewed Explains procedures to patient Positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum imaging results;
- selects appropriate equipment settings Communicates with all healthcare providers to assure quality of care Ensures completion of all studies prior to releasing patient Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols;
following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs
Maintains quality control and quality assurance for the assigned area Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations Properly identifies patient prior to performing examinations Evaluates radiographs or images for technical quality with proper recording of identification Reports any equipment malfunctions;
documents in the proper system Participates in quality assessments and improvement plans
Required Qualifications :
Education : Must be enrolled in an Associate degree program in an accredited school for Radiology; Must be within 12 months of graduation;
Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Licensure : CPR Certified
