Overview :

A reputable HVAC Mechanical Contractor currently continuing to expand due to their ongoing awarded projects and repeat clientele.

They have a fantastic family company culture and looking for a Project Accountant to join their team.

Summary :

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Construction Staff Accountant to join our team. This position will play a critical role in managing the financial aspects of various construction projects, including job cost tracking, processing AIA billing, and managing general ledger (GL) items.

The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge with specific experience in construction accounting and job cost management.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Job Cost Accounting :
  • Track and analyze job costs, ensuring all project-related expenses are accurately allocated to the appropriate job.
  • Prepare monthly job cost reports and provide insights on budget variances.
  • Assist project managers with job cost queries and provide necessary financial data.
  • Reconcile job cost accounts in accordance with project progress and completion.
  • AIA Billing :
  • Maintain accurate records of all submitted billings, retainage, and payments received.
  • Communicate with project managers and clients to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure timely collection of receivables.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure billings are aligned with percentage of completion.
  • General Ledger Management :
  • Reconcile GL accounts, including work-in-progress (WIP), accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and accrued expenses.
  • Assist in monthly and year-end closing activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Conduct GL account analysis and support the preparation of financial statements.
  • Project Support :
  • Provide accounting support during project audits and prepare necessary documentation for compliance purposes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all project-related financial transactions.

Qualifications :

  • Experience :
  • Minimum of 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong experience with job cost accounting, AIA billing, and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software such as Sage, MS Project, etc.
  • Skills :
  • Proficient in Procore, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, AIA billing, and job cost analysis.
