Position Summary The Oncology Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes the nursing process to assist the registered nurse in prescribing, providing, and coordinating care based on current standards of Oncology nursing.
That care includes collecting and documenting pertinent history and reassessment, drug administration, port flushes as appropriate, and intravenous access.
The LPN will also be responsible for Point of Care testing and medication reconciliation on patients requiring this. In addition patient, family and staff education is to be performed and documented.
- Education College Diploma in Nursing - Required
- Experience 1 - 2 Years - Required Experience with emergency nursing preferred, with a minimum of 18 months of experience required.
- License & Certification Professional License with State of Practice - Required

Contributes to formulation of nursing careplan for patients in consultation with the RN and in collaboration with patient, families, healthcare members using established nursing diagnoses and nursing protocols.
Prioritize nursing care needs of clients. Assist in the review and revision of nursing care plans with the RN to meet the changing needs of the patient.
Complies with regulatory guidelines for work area and professional practice standards. Assists with data collection, trouble shooting, and educating staff of performance improvement indicators.
Utilizes available safety equipment and processes for patient care. Administers medication utilizing the 5 rights and available safety equipment and processes.
Utilizes clinical judgment with patient assessment and prescribed therapies to ensure promotion of goal obtainment. As a leader holds healthcare providers accountable for the standard of care.
Utilizes Teach Back technique to assess understanding of education. Assesses needs for discharge and the best way the patient may be provided instruction.
Utilizes appropriate written communication, education packets and / or audio-video instructions. Teach back performed with patients to facilitate patient outcome improvements by increasing knowledge and skills needed to improve healthy behaviors.
Elicit information using effective counseling techniques. Identify factors that might affect communication or learning. Uses critical thinking skills to assess and document to improve patient health outcomes.
Participates as a resource in developing tools to accurately assess and document the physical, psycho-social, growth, and developmental dimensions of the patient.
Reviews unit, staff performance in collaboration with the manager.
