Inova Health System is seeking Radiation Therapist of all experience levels to join this dynamic team. We have openings for full-time, part-time and PRN working 8-hour day shifts Monday to Friday.

Requirements for consideration :

Radiation Therapist 1

• Associate degree in Radiation Therapy
• American Registered Radiologic Technologist certified or registry eligible within one year of employment.
• Basic Life Support form AHA required upon start.

Radiation Therapist 2

• Associate degree in Radiation Therapy or Certification.
• 2 years of experience as a Staff Therapist in a Radiation Therapy department with experience in linear accelerators and patient simulation
• American Registered Radiologic Technologist required upon start.
• VA License required at PROC (Woodbridge)

Job Responsibilities :

• The Radiation Therapist communicates effectively with patients, families, medical staff, healthcare team members, supervisors, and outside contacts.
• Provides education and support of methods appropriate to patients' levels of understanding and motivation while including families and caregivers in education and training as appropriate.
• Positions all patients for initial treatment to verify set-up; Verifies beam directional devices, ancillary aids and blocking via record and verification systems on machines and patients' computerized treatment plans before initiation of radiation beam;

Maintains accurate records of daily treatments and other records as required.

• Acts as a Liaison between physicians and machine staff by utilizing technical expertise for all difficult / complex treatments on various machines.
• Documents any corrections in charts resulting from changes in the originally prescribed course of treatment; Detects unsatisfactory set-up and / or errors and resolves / reports to physicians.
• Ensures that portal verification films are taken at appropriate intervals. Recognizes the need for adjustments in treatment ports when comparing simulation / portal films or patient positions;

Performs daily quality assurance on linear accelerators, simulator and Computed Tomography machines to verify accurate output of designated parameters.

Records findings and reports erratic operations of equipment.

Verifies operation of emergency shut offs and interlocks; Participates or provides assistance with in-vivo dosimetry measurements and special dosimetry.

Attends department in-services / conferences and meetings.

Demonstrates knowledge of department treatment modalities and protocols in scheduling, set-up and treatment of patients;

Keeps abreast of new technology in field of practice and assists in the development of new techniques, participation in research projects and / or educational activities.
