Veterinary Research Assistant
Primary Responsibilities
This position is a full-time veterinary research assistantship, supporting current mobile dolphin ECG (electrocardiogram) research.
The duration of the position is for approximately 6 months (10 / 1 / 2024 through 3 / 14 / 2025), due to grant funding. There is the potential for continued project funding, but this is not guaranteed.
This position will support the acquisition of ECG data with the mobile ECG harness, including coordination of data collection with training staff, facilitating open water sessions, assisting with equipment maintenance, data management, and data analysis.
This work will take place at the Navy Marine Mammal Program facilities in San Diego, CA, with the potential for travel in support of the project.
The employee reports directly to project manager, Dr. Barb Linnehan (Director of Animal Health and Welfare).
Essential Functions
- Provide technical support for mobile dolphin ECG research being conducted with the US Navy Marine Mammal Program, including open water sessions for ECG collection;
- Perform data collection, including setup, breakdown, and maintenance of research equipment;
- Oversee data quality control and management, and contribute to report writing;
- There is potential for travel opportunities for ECG data collection at other facilities.

Educational Requirements
Undergraduate degree & NMMF animal care & training curriculum
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience at the Marine Mammal Program in scientific research and training
- Able to work independently as needed and cooperatively with multiple teams
- Must have a secret security clearance

Office, Pier-side, Open water on boats
