Physical Therapy Aide Roles and Responsibilities :
Under the Supervision of the Manager of Rehabilitation Services evaluates, and provides direct patient care per physician orders to rehabilitate patients in an outpatient setting to achieve stated goals.
Services are provided according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provides supervision to physical therapy aides.
- Provides clinical supervision to affiliated students under guidelines established by the participating educational institutions.
- Instructs and assists patients in a variety of functional activities.
- Performs and assists patients through a variety of therapeutic modalities and techniques per established procedures, utilizing techniques specific to the age group serviced.
- Recommends modification of treatment plan and goals. Maintains open communication with the primary therapist related to changes in the patient's physical and mental status and any deviation in the anticipated rate of progress.
- Meets with the patient's care team members on developing and implementing care plans and discharge planning.
- Instructs patient care staff on their techniques and equipment to facilitate the carryout of therapy.
- Provides ongoing patient, family, and caregiver education.
- Provides clear daily and progress reporting.
- Presents with a positive attitude and demeanor at all times, and adheres to the WE CARE standards.
- Proficient in the use of computerized documentation.
- Utilizes appropriate outcome measures.
- Participates in departmental Lean activities.
- Participates in (1) departmental projects / initiatives / year.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Commits to recognizing and respecting cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).
- Communicates effectively with internal and external customers with respect to differences in cultures, values, beliefs, and ages, utilizing interpreters when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required
- Functions independently according to a detailed plan of care for patients being treated which includes an explicit statement of treatment goals, anticipated rate of progress, frequency and duration of treatment, reevaluation schedule, precautions, and other factors as appropriate.
- Maintain established policies and procedures, quality assurance, safety, and infection control.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgments in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies, and vendors
- Training in clinical science, psychology, kinesiology, and physical therapy procedures is required.
- Previous experience is not required outside the A.S. clinical requirement.
- Requires a minimum of one year on the job to be proficient in duties.
Education / Certification :
- Associate of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school required.
- Registration in the State of Massachusetts is required.
- BLS certification
