Under direct supervision, The Medical Assistant uses basic knowledge and skills obtained through on-the-job training to provide patient centered medical services and education in support of PPNCNY’s mission.
Gathers patient information, identifies concerns, and provides information to other medical professionals in order to provide services and meet patient needs.

- Greets patients and visitors in a positive friendly manner.
- Collaborates with health center and non-health center team members to provide excellent internal and external customer service and satisfaction.
- Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-health center and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.
- Understands and demonstrates compliance with PPNCNY’s policies and procedures related to providing patients with medical supplies and services.
- Accurately documents in the medical records.
- Retrieves medical records for internal and external quality management audits or as required.
- Transfers and receives patient medical records according to policy and procedure, including maintaining archived records.
- Demonstrates accuracy in the collection and documentation of laboratory specimens.
- Assists with patient reminder calls, reschedules cancellations and no-show patient visits.
- Works as a part of a team to maximize productivity standards as determined by PPNCNY’s Medical Management team.
- Under the supervision of licensed health center staff, provides non-judgmental education and care related to PPNCNY’s health center services.
- Interviews patients on entrance to the health center prior to the exam.
- Provides support, under the supervision of a RN / LPN / Provider, to patients receiving surgical services.
- Prepares and restocks exam, intake and medication rooms daily to assure efficient patient flow under the general supervision of licensed staff.
- Performs various medical lab functions, collecting blood and urine specimens, pregnancy testing, blood pressure, hemoglobin, weight and height while using aseptic technique and universal precautions.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups.
- Must be highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the Department.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work evenings and / or weekends.
- Basic to intermediate computer knowledge and skills.
- Ability to travel to other centers as needed.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Acceptance and understanding of PPNCNY’s Personnel Policies.
- Current certification in BLS / CPR.
- Assists in training of new employees.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Experience in a medical office with direct patient care experience or Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS :
- Lift / carry 10 lbs. or less frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
- Bend / squat / kneel frequently
