Summary
The Speech-Language Pathologist plans, organizes and implements speech-language pathology and dysphagia services in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility and as may be coordinated by the Director of Rehabilitation to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is delivered.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Screens, evaluates, develops, organizes and implements patient / resident care programs through the utilization of selected speech-language, swallowing and aural rehabilitation testing and treatment procedures.
Administers selected aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, cognitive and swallowing evaluation tests.
Evaluates, fits and adjusts adaptive and augmentative communication devices to assist the patient / resident in maximizing functional abilities.
Participates in conferences, consultations, Facility Care Plan meetings as needed, and educational programs designed to improve patient / resident care and staff performance as directed by the Director of Rehabilitation.
Instructs patient / resident and family in speech-language pathology and dysphagia recommendations to be continued upon patient / resident discharge.
Consults with physicians concerning goals and treatment plans and monitors the presence of any contradictions to treatment.
Adhering to regulatory guidelines, ensures all speech-language pathology documentation / treatment conforms to documentation / billing policies and procedures, and meets requirements for third party payer documentation and reimbursement.
Participates in quality improvement studies and monitors program evaluation indicators.
Working with the Director of Rehabilitation, provides oversight and direction of the Rehab Tech and Volunteers and assists in the supervision and education of affiliating students.
Assists in the assurance that the physical surroundings and equipment are sanitary, orderly and free from conditions that may cause safety hazards.
Performs other duties as assigned and allowed by State Practice Acts and regulation.
Demonstrates working knowledge of and compliance with the facility Compliance program, policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
Demonstrates compliance with the protection of patient / resident health information and company sensitive information including compliance with company policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited speech-language pathology Master’s program, eligible for licensure in the state in which the program is located, and has ASHA Certification or is in the Clinical Fellowship Year to complete that certification.
Ability to work flexible work hours to support state and federal resident care requirements.
Prior experience in long-term care is preferred.
