Job Summary :
The Vice President of Operations for a mechanical construction firm oversees the day-to-day operations and project delivery for all mechanical projects, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
The role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, profitability, and efficiency across all projects while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
This leadership role involves developing strategies for business growth, managing teams, and driving improvements in project execution, safety, and resource allocation.
Key Responsibilities :
- Operational Leadership :
- Oversee and direct the execution of all mechanical construction projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices to improve efficiency and productivity across all mechanical projects.
- Lead and mentor project managers, superintendents, and field staff to ensure seamless project execution and operational consistency.
- Implement performance metrics to monitor productivity, profitability, and client satisfaction, and adjust strategies as needed.
- Project Management Oversight :
- Ensure that project teams are meeting or exceeding client expectations in terms of quality, schedule, and budget.
- Oversee large-scale and high-profile mechanical projects to ensure adherence to contract terms and client specifications.
- Manage risk by ensuring proper compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and company standards.
- Monitor and approve high-level project deliverables, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
- Financial Management :
- Work with the CFO and senior management to create budgets, forecast revenue, and control expenses for the mechanical division.
- Oversee profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities for mechanical operations, ensuring financial objectives are met.
- Ensure effective cash flow management, contract negotiation, and cost control strategies are in place.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, resource optimization, and operational improvements across all projects.
- Business Development & Client Relations :
- Collaborate with business development and sales teams to identify new business opportunities and expand client relationships within the mechanical construction sector.
- Play a key role in client interactions, contract negotiations, and strategic partnerships to secure long-term business growth.
- Work closely with key clients and stakeholders to ensure satisfaction and maintain a high standard of service.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings, building relationships with industry leaders and potential clients.
- Team Development & Leadership :
- Provide strong leadership and strategic direction to all team members within the mechanical operations division.
- Foster a positive company culture that emphasizes safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement employee training and development programs to enhance the technical and leadership skills of project teams.
- Ensure the mechanical division is appropriately staffed and equipped to handle projects efficiently.
- Safety & Compliance :
- Ensure all mechanical construction projects comply with industry safety standards and internal safety protocols.
- Work with safety managers and site supervisors to develop and enforce safety plans, risk assessments, and accident prevention measures.
- Stay informed of changes in regulations and laws affecting the mechanical construction industry and ensure company compliance.
Qualifications :
- Education & Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; advanced degree or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mechanical construction, with at least 5 years in an executive leadership or senior operational role.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
- Skills & Abilities :
- Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Deep understanding of mechanical construction processes, systems, and industry best practices.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets, P&L statements, and cost control measures.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Certifications :
- Professional certifications such as LEED, PMP, or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) are a plus.
