Job Summary :

Supports delivery of patient care by providing clerical and receptionist services to patients, families, visitors, staff, physicians, departments that support patient care, and all other customers of a Patient Care Unit with regular guidance.

Facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, and fosters effective communication.

Shift :

This rewarding position works two 12-hour shifts per week from 6 : 45 am until 7 : 15 pm and rotates throughout the week, including weekends and holidays.

Department Summary :

The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) is a 23-bed space at Monroe Carell where we care only for critically ill children with heart disease.

Patients are typically post open heart surgery. Our PCICU team includes cardiac critical care physicians with special training in caring for children, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, and case managers.

We also have child life specialists who know how to meet the special needs of children with heart disease.

Preferred qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in medical office administration is a plus.

Previous experience in a medical receptionist or similar role is preferred.

Strong IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes is beneficial.

Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processes orders according to guidelines, and follows computer downtime procedures.
  • Enters and updates information in computer system to assure current information and retrieves data accurately.
  • Maintains unit log according to guidelines, makes follow-up appointments, and performs discharge-related clerical tasks.
  • Responds to patient call system and patient requests providing clear, current information to families, visitors and staff.
  • Uses telephone, patient call system, beeper / paging system, fax / copy machine, scanning, unit-specific monitoring devices, pneumatic tube system, and to facilitate flow of communication, equipment and supplies.
  • Orders, maintains, and cost-effectively uses supplies.
