Overview
The Cardiovascular Technician performs interventional cardiology, vascular, electrophysiology, and hybrid operating room procedures.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Obtains and reviews the requisition for exams and information (procedure requested, special notes / comments and patient condition).
- Reviews worksheets and patient questionnaires relating to exam prior to start.
- Interviews patients before a procedure to obtain patient history / information and documents all relevant information into EMR.
- Explains procedure to be performed to obtain consent and cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety.
- Addresses patient concerns of radiation exposure.
- Transfers patient to examination table; assuring that patient is properly clothed / covered.
- Demonstrates the ability place immobilization / supportive devices to obtain patient comfort and precise positioning.
- Ensures that lead shields / protective clothing are properly in place and adjusted for staff and providers.
- Ensures patient's comfort while obtaining the desired results.
- Explains proper breathing instructions and continually directs patient during procedures.
- Analyzes digital images for quality and performs quantitative analysis.
- Reviews patient's condition to determine proper exposure factor for each test, calculating the proper voltage, current, and exposure time.
- Demonstrates knowledge in collimation; adjusts cone as necessary to produce high quality images.
- Receives and relays physician orders to RN for placement in patient's electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assists in performing procedures (cardiovascular, vascular, electrophysiology, and hybrid).
- Demonstrates ability to start and maintain intravenous and intra-arterial access.
- Maintains and removes peripherally inserted central catheters.
- Performs manual and mechanical hemostasis.
- Demonstrates the ability to utilize closure devices.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify cardiac rhythms.
- Participates in physiological monitoring of patients.
- Provides support for patient / families by communicating the need for referrals (i.e. social services, case manager, etc).
- Provides and documents education to patients / families and healthcare team.
- Documents in EMR and communicates to health care team patient's interventions, responses, and status changes.
Education
Educates and monitors students and other healthcare providers.
Compliance / Safety
Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas / RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs;
performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
- Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations / statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.
- If required for the position, ensures all certifications and / or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
- Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.
- Archives images according to protocols.
Qualifications
Education
Associates of Science degree in Radiological Technology- Required
Bachelor’s degree- Preferred
Certification & Licensures
MRTBE, ARRT- Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
ACLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required
CI, VI, RCIS- Preferred
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
Experience
Two years competency as a general radiographer or six months as a certified specialist- Preferred
