Key Responsibilities :

Please note that this role is hybrid and requires in office attendance 2-3 days per week in Chicago or Houston.

The Senior Manager of Platform Engineering will manage a team of highly technical engineers and platform architects who work closely with Engineering, Security, Enterprise Architecture, Shared Platforms, Application Development and Operations teams to support and enable tooling, controls and processes for driving secure and continuous delivery through SDLC automation.

Good understanding of institutional operations practices and modern enterprise application development will be critical to deliver the enablement and enforcement capabilities that create the ecosystem for structured code releases and infrastructure provisioning changes with quality gates to deliver reliable, secure and optimized business capabilities for the organization.

Strong leadership experience managing people, process and technology at enterprise scale.

  • Establish a CoE with collaborators from architecture, engineering, security, app dev and shared platforms teams to bring in new thinking, tools and frameworks to accelerate software development
  • Define and own product backlog based on the feature enhancements from the product roadmap and user community feedback and lead the execution
  • Develop and own the product roadmap for the artifacts to be used by all roles in SDLC for delivery business capabilities, guided by industry research and feedback
  • Define and prioritize feature enhancements for enterprise capabilities as well as supporting specific portfolio / business unit needs
  • Champion recommendations for continuous improvement to offer competitive advantage for development teams to build applications on the platforms supported
  • Create a community practice to drive adoption of standard processes widely
  • Collaborate with the enterprise collaborators in defining strategy, standards and policies for various platforms and create an execution plan for it
  • Engage QA teams to define and implement automated test plans for the certifying the automation, template, artifacts that are published for enterprise use for software delivery
  • Set up a product support organization to provide post deployment support and discretionary support
  • Partner with the solution delivery team to drive adoption of the products and to provide extended support
  • Lead a multi-functional team of engineers, architects, developers and others
  • Mentor, develop, and encourage team members to achieve their project and personal goals to develop and sustain a strong team
  • Define operating model through center of enablement for governing and managing platform products
  • Define RACI for various personas in enterprise architecture, operations, platform engineering, DevSecOps and security teams
  • Establish critical metrics and measure performance against the objectives to report and to drive compliance

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications) :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering
  • 9 + years of experience in IT industry including :
  • 4+ years of experience in leadership
  • 4+ years of experience as a Platform Engineering and / or DevSecOps SRE roles
  • Operational experience with automation, orchestration, virtualization / public cloud, release pipeline, metrics collection, and clustered computing technologies
  • Proficiency in cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Understanding of DevOps principles and tools like Jenkins, Git, Harness and Ansible
  • Experience with network fundamentals and security standard processes
  • Deep understanding of scripting languages Python, Javascript or Go
  • Extensive experience in defining solution architecture and complex integration architecture for large enterprise applications and systems
  • Hands on experience in developing roadmaps, priorities, features, story outlines, writing user stories, refining product backlogs, and coordinating / prioritizing conflicting requirements in a fast-paced, changing environment with variety of stakeholders
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
