Job Title : Registered Nurse - Extended Recovery Care
The Registered Nurse- RCC-Extended Recovery Care is responsible for post-surgical recovery care of patients admitted into our 72-hour recovery care 6 bed suite.
The RCC-Extended Recovery Care nurse is responsible for professional nursing care of post-surgical or endoscopic patients to achieve total patient centered care through use of the nursing process.
Unlike a typical hospital setting, our facility offers the unique opportunity to walk alongside patients while they recover in our newly opened state-of-the-art recovery care center.

Principal Responsibilities
Admission - Greet patient and instruct in changing into appropriate attire for overnight care when indicated. Complete admission process, nurse to nurse hand-off, document on appropriate EHR and administer post-op orders (i.
e. medications, IV's). Provide post-operative teaching to patients and significant others if present. Consult with other members of the care team regarding patient care and recovery plan.
Post-Anesthesia Care Nurse- Assess and monitor the patient during Phase 3 of the recovery process. Compete applicable documentation.
Administer medications as ordered. Complete patient rounding per post-operative protocols. Including but not limited to taking vitals, administering point of care testing, toileting, showering and food services.
- This unique 6 bed suite, each nurse will oversee the direct care of no more than 3 patients.
- Responsible for the planning, coordination, and assurance of quality care services to all admitted patients.
- Environmental working conditions include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, contagious diseases and / or radioactive potentially hazardous materials.
- Nurses will be cross trained to work other areas in the facility utilizing those nursing skills and techniques necessary to meet the patients' needs and provide quality care.
Annual competencies for specific working area must be completed within designated month.
- Work cooperatively with the healthcare team members from the ASC and RCC to maintain established standards of care.
- Able to transfer patients from wheelchairs weighing up to 300 pounds when needed.
- Restock all foods / Kitchen supplies and oversee food services when needed.
- Always maintain the facility in a neat and orderly manner. Assuring linens are stocked and orderly.
- Restock supplies as indicated daily.
- Check crash cart, defibrillator, and medications daily, see that all equipment is present and in working order.
- Collect and label specimens from the sterile field appropriately and ensure proper disposition to lab.
- Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
- Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Education / Experience
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
- Three-five years of comparable nursing experience preferred.
- Must have a minimum of two years of experience within the last five years in the post-anesthesia recovery unit or medical / surgical unit of an acute care hospital or in an ambulatory surgical treatment center.
Licenses / Certificates
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
- CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
