This position is part-time (0.5 FTE, 20 hours per week). It will be based on the Stanford campus and is a hybrid (working on-site and working from home) subject to operational needs.

From benchtop research to international programs, the Department of Emergency Medicine provides exceptional patient care, delivers outstanding undergraduate and graduate education, and furthers the field of emergency medicine through innovative basic science and clinical research.

The Department of Emergency Medicine seeks a Research Project Manager (Academic Program Professional 1) to support Dr. Ngaruiya's domestic and international global health research.

We are looking for a team-oriented, organized, socially savvy, and good communicator to provide scientific support for the research faculty.

The person in this role will facilitate communication among faculty members, collaborators, and staff as well as help coordinate the logistics of Dr.

Ngaruiya's research projects. This role will resemble that of a project manager. You will collaborate with an exceptional group of people to provide administrative and programmatic support in a dynamic and friendly work environment.

This is a busy position requiring accuracy, organization, initiative, flexibility, and independence. An ideal candidate will exhibit excellent time management skills, communication skills, the ability to set priorities, and a passion for working with people.

Experience / exposure working with international populations and the ability to coordinate across multiple time zones is preferred.

Duties include :

  • Oversee and administer research activities by evaluating academic programs, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and coordinating and implementing changes.
  • Analyze data (qualitative and quantitative), create reports, review and explain trends to determine program effectiveness;

formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and / or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program.

Write and edit content for proposals, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities under the general direction of PI.

Assist with the development of research grants, (i.e., may suggest new funding opportunities, write portions of grants, and / or summarize data for grant support).

Represent the program as the key contact and subject matter expert on the PI's research interests and develop communications for internal and external constituencies.

Organize and / or participate in outreach activities such as events, partnerships, fundraising, training, and conferences.

Lead collaborations and facilitate meetings.

  • Monitor expenses, budgets, and finances of the program. Make recommendations on funding based on the program spending plan and needs.
  • May oversee student, field-based, and assistant researchers.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Two years of related experience.
  • Master's degree or PhD strongly preferred.
  • Strong educational background and experience in managing several research projects.
  • Familiarity with an academic environment and medical school and / or healthcare / clinical environment.
  • Ability to understand scientific literature, experimental procedures and their limitations, and current needs of the research community.
  • Ability to learn and utilize relational databases, data integration, and statistics.
  • Understanding of research and regulatory environment, clinical research, and related policies including ethical oversight and institutional review boards.
  • Demonstrated success with crafting and vetting a variety of strategies for project development and expansion within grant funding guidelines, meeting funder deliverables and aligning with organizational mission and aim.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED) :

Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs.

Program administration and or research experience may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED) :

  • Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and provide basic direction to staff and research partners to meet project milestones.

The expected pay range for this position is $42.72 to $49.16 per hour.
