The Regional Director of Operations serves as the strategic leader for Iowa, holding ultimate responsibility for the financial performance, human resources, operations, care, and compliance, and building maintenance across multiple communities.

This individual excels in managing diverse teams and driving leadership development among community managers. This role demands a sophisticated balance of strategic vision, operational excellence, financial acumen, and exceptional leadership to ensure the continued success and growth of the communities under their guidance.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities :

Operational Leadership : Provide leadership and direction to Executive Directors or Administrators at each community. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policies.

Implement and monitor quality control programs. Address and resolve critical issues, including staffing shortages, resident emergencies, or regulatory challenges.

Financial Management : Develop and oversee the budget for each community, ensuring they operate within financial targets.

Implement strategies to increase occupancy and revenue, including marketing and community outreach. Identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising the quality of care and services.

Strategic Planning : Identify opportunities for expansion or improvement within the region, including potential acquisitions or new community openings.

Establish short-term and long-term goals for the communities and ensure alignment with the organization's overall strategy.

Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to inform strategic decisions.

  • Performance Reporting : Prepare and present detailed performance reports to corporate leadership, highlighting key successes, challenges, and strategic recommendations.
  • Stakeholder Communication : Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including ownership groups, residents' families, local community leaders, and regulatory bodies, fostering positive relationships and addressing concerns.
  • Resident and Family Relations : Ensure high levels of satisfaction among residents and their families by maintaining quality services and addressing concerns promptly.

Foster positive relationships with residents, families, and local community leaders.

Staff Leadership and Development : Oversee the hiring and retention of high-performing staff across the region. Support recruitment efforts for key positions.

Ensure that staff at all levels receive proper training and development opportunities. Promote leadership development within the region.

Evaluate the performance of community leaders, providing coaching and feedback to drive improvement.

  • Succession Planning : Develop and implement succession plans for key leadership roles within the region, ensuring continuity and sustained performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure all communities meet or exceed regulatory standards, conducting regular audits and reviews.

Oversee the licensing process for all communities within the region and ensure all certifications are up to date.

Risk Management : Implement and maintain safety programs to protect residents, staff, and the organization from potential risks.

Manage serious incidents, including investigations, reporting, and corrective actions.

  • Crisis Management : Lead the regional response to emergencies or significant operational disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on residents and staff.
  • Collaboration and Communication : Act as the primary contact between the corporate office and the regional communities, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and goals.

Work closely with other departments (e.g., HR, Accounting, Solutions, Marketing, Care and Compliance) to support community operations and initiatives.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement : Identify and implement best practices across the region to improve operational efficiency, resident care, and staff satisfaction.

Promote the adoption of innovative technologies that can enhance operations, care delivery, or resident experiences.

Ethical Leadership : Ensure that all operations are conducted with integrity and in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values.

Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, and diversity within communities.

Other Duties :

  • Approve all capital projects and major contracts to ensure alignment with strategic goals and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in the due diligence process for new asset acquisitions, providing analysis and insights.
  • Represent the organization by attending owner and resident activities or functions outside of regular hours, as needed.
  • Conduct regular property visits to evaluate and enhance the performance and profitability of each asset.
  • Hold routine meetings with Executive Directors to provide coaching, support, and strategic guidance to optimize performance.
  • Evaluate and mentor community leadership teams to strengthen sales strategies and ensure operational accountability.
  • Manage owner relationships by conducting property tours, providing comprehensive updates on performance, and addressing any owner inquiries or requests promptly.
  • Review and analyze the financial and operational performance of each Executive Director to ensure the achievement of business objectives, including meeting NOI targets, maximizing revenue, and managing expenses within budget.
  • Oversee the training and development of subordinate staff, ensuring that all team members receive necessary on-the-job training and participate in scheduled company training programs.

Qualifications & Physical Requirements :

  • Demonstrates flexibility in work schedule, including availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays, as necessary.
  • Must be willing to travel and work remotely as needed.
  • Proven ability to complete projects accurately and within deadlines is essential.
  • Willingness to obtain future industry-required certifications and designations.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and maintain current automobile insurance.
  • Strong budgetary and fiscal management skills are required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are crucial, given the need for direct interaction with multiple departments both within and outside the company.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrates strong initiative, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on commitments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of state regulations governing assisted living.
  • Capable of mentoring, coaching, training, setting goals, and holding teams accountable for their performance.

Education & Experience :

  • BA / BS in Business or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3 year of experience in a regional director role with a senior housing company who specializes in continuum of care retirement communities
